yeah, a lot of institutional knowledge just walked out the door there

But can't say I'm surprised at all. He did a long stint in the same place. And I don't think you can go from analysing players to coaching players (to a failure) to analysing them again without getting sideways looks and murmurs of 'who is this guy?'

He might join Lord Montague of Swansea. Good luck to him wherever he goes next and thanks for the contribution to our promotion.

Possibly the latter, but I'd guess it was just the end of the road - time to move on.

Became irrelevant. No loyalty was shown and he got booted. A bit brutal but that's what it is.

                      A symptom of modern society.

It is a but murky that the other coaches left under whatever situation he basically got promoted didn't cut mustard and the owners changed it from the ground up and 11 years of great service meant not a lot. Yet Sam Slocombe is a coach.

                      Weird.

It would be hypocritical for me to complain when the idea of him becoming HC filled me with dread. But when people are telling us they prefer the new head coach to the old dinosaurs on the 'merry-go-round' (a borrowed phrase from Trew, who also used it to justify appointing bad managers) I think it's odd that our new modern man says he doesn't understand data.

"If you ask me about data, I wouldn't be able to give you an answer that makes sense because I don't deal with the data – I don't understand it," Paterson told BBC Sport.
