  • MillersMad Match Thread...Millers v Man City U21s

It's another midweek match thread and this time we welcome the youngsters from Manchester City to the New York Stadium for our final group game in the Vertu Trophy competition.

    The Boss
Ben Wilkinson is currently the lead coach of Manchester City's elite development squad. He is the son of Howard Wilkinson.

    Player(s) to watch
    Jaden Heskey
Son of former England striker, Emile Heskey. The 19 year old midfielder made his senior debut for City earlier this season coming on as a late substitute against Huddersfield in the EFL cup.

    Mahamadou Sangare
Previously on the books at PSG, the young striker has been prolific in his youth career so far, scoring 42 goals in 46 games for the PSG under 19s. The 18 year old Frenchman signed a 5 year professional contract with City earlier this year and he's finding the net regularly for the U21s, scoring 4 times so far, in 6 appearances.

    Previous results in this competition

    Bolton 3 v 0 Manchester City
    Oldham 1 v 5 Manchester City

The U21 teams play all their games away from home in this competition.

    Summary

The task is a simple one for both teams: win the game over 90 minutes (or win on penalties) and it's a place in the round of 32. Given what's at stake, I think it will be a good watch against a young team with some talented players.

    Enjoy the game everyone. UTM.

As an aside, if anyone is interested in the prize money that clubs can win from the Vertu Trophy, then here it is.

    Participation in the competition: 20k
Group stage: 10k per win and 5k per draw
    Round of 32 win: 20k
    Round of 16 win: 40k
    QF win: 50k
    SF win: 50k
    Final win 100k

A win on Tuesday will mean we've earned 40k so far. We'd win a further 260k if we go all the way and win the competition

Just like we did with Warney.

        Heliospan, great information and thanks.

I still stand by by what I think in that I find it unfair Prem clubs can send in their U21's. This low key trophy is designed to give the smaller clubs a chance of reaching Wembley.

That Mahamadou Sangare sounds a right handful!

Meanwhile our strike force consists of JH and Josh Ayers as his replacement when he?s had enough !

Keeper should have done better maybe but what a crap pass to let them in

Very passive from us, we need to take the game to them and a bit late for this but not allow them to gain any confidence at all, come on millers

Bit better from the millers, starting to impose ourselves a little more now.

Hall he's having a mare! 2 down should be at least double that.

Not being funny guys but Millers are awful and you’re lucky thus game isn’t already over. Problem is you don’t seem to have much on the bench to improve things. I think Hamsgaws got this very wrong leaving so many first teamers out. I’d like to see Martha come on he was quite impressive last time I saw him and also Joe Powell to get some energy into it.
