  • Millers v SUFC - Sat 19 Jul 25

Unless I'm misreading the ticketing site, it appears that only a few hundred seats have been sold in the Rotherham end. I would have thought that a pre Centenary season friendly against a quality local side might have stimulated a bit more interest. Perhaps people are waiting to see if other parts of the ground will be opened up, or intend to pay on the day, or are having trouble getting their heads around the cumbersome Ticketmaster site, or are keeping their options open in case they get a call from MH for volunteers to fill some gaps on the pitch?

I recall Brin mentioned a while ago that he thought it would be a sell-out, and I agreed. Am I missing something?

Not surprised really. Last years game wasn’t a sellout. 4/5k I think.
As for our Centenary year we could and should have had better opposition not a team we play regularly.
The game is also on SUTV for 6 quid so that will affect the crowd.
I myself registered with SUTV last year and watched the friendly for 5 quid.

A fixture we played last year. A friendly. Our team has barely changed still. Opposition who themselves seem to have forgotten the window is open. Holiday season (and much more so for football fans than last year's date). The fake centenary probably won't weigh into people deciding if this is one to watch. I'd imagine I'm not alone in wanting a couple of signings, and August to roll around so we can get started with some real matches and get past these training games.

Hi Glenn, yes I did think that, local side etc but didn't recall last time we played a pre season against them, what the gate was.

The consensus I'm getting at the mo is the fans are disillusioned with the pre season let down of very little recruitment and they are voting with their feet by staying away. Even my Son said that to me today, that he's not going if no one comes in for Friday as he saw the team at Parkgate so, there's nothing new to see.

All we seem to be hearing or being fed is paper talk of this player and that player being hot topics, and with only 20 days before the season kicks off, players are still not through the doors. The 'stable lad' is in for a swift kick up the arse if none of what he says is happening, doesn't comes off .

Its not, as Rotherham United WAS created in 1925 so I dont know what Ulley is on about. However the 1984 one was completely fake , since Thornhill started in 1870. The one thing that really bugs me about this one is the way the club are mis-selling the retro shirts and seem oblivious to the fact they got it wrong. I even got a smug response on Facebook, but have been blanked since I produced actual evidence in the form of unambiguous press cuttings from 1925.

The 1984 one was an absolute joke. Might as well pluck numbers from the air. This one is slightly more legitimate, but the club's roots shouldn't be ignored for the sake of a tacky gold badge. Most clubs are keener to trace back to the earliest justifiable date (Newton Heath, Dial Square, Small Heath Alliance, etc).

Not got tickets for Saturday. Be 1st time will have missed friendly's at the NYS unless we have a big forward in other additions. Some players still here I see no future in.

The Millers' earliest origins are probably the Thornhill club from 1877. 52 years until the bi-centenary. This is the only chance some of us old timers will get to celebrate an historical club event.
It's no big deal if some folk prefer to ignore it.

                      Fair question Glenn.

I want to go, but i havent watched a match from behind the goal for ten years so i’m waiting for blocks on either side to open.
The strategy seems to be that the club wont put the good seats on sale till theyve sold all the sh*t seats in the corner that are usually half empty.
I can understand not opening the whole ground, to save costs, but this is ridiculous and something of a defeatist attitude. Surely they can open a block or two on the side for the 50% of our fans who are used to watching games side on.

Agree not got tickets yet. Sign a wide right player would persuade me to. Don't want to sit in corner seats with only Holmes who'll never convince me who can play there.

As far as I know it isn?t on Ifollow.
It is however on SUTV. If you go on the Blades website and register with them you can then buy a day pass for 6 Quid and watch the game.
