  • MillersMad Match Thread...Millers v Swindon Town

It's a break from the league this weekend as we welcome Swindon Town to the New York Stadium for our FA Cup first round tie.

Let's meet our round 1 opponents.

    The Boss
    Ian Holloway.
Appointed boss on 25/10/2024, Swindon Town are the 9th club that Holloway has managed. Swindon were 22nd in the league when Holloway took over last season but finished the season in 12th place. With his side currently sitting 2nd in the league, Holloway appears to have had a positive impact in the 12 months that he's been in charge.

    Player(s) to watch
Aaron Drinan is the top scorer in L2 so far this season. The 27 year old has scored 10 goals in 13 appearances. It remains to be seen whether Swindon play him tomorrow or choose to rest him.

    They played for both clubs
Michael Smith, Jerry Yates, Andy Monkhouse, Angus MacDonald.

    Latest Odds
    Millers 23/20 Draw 21/10 Swindon 19/10

    Recent Meetings
    (3/5/2014)
    L1 Swindon 1 v 2 Rotherham
    Wesley Thomas x 2

    (12/10/2013)
    L1 Rotherham 0 v 4 Swindon

    Summary
In stark contrast to our form, Swindon are without a win in their last four games. That being said, they remain joint top in L2 so it'll be interesting to see what they have to offer on Saturday. Last time they were on the road, they were beaten 4-0 at Accrington.

For me, the outcome on Saturday will all depend on whether we decide to show up or not. We can't afford another first half (like on Tuesday) where player's heads are still in the changing rooms. Hopefully we can get on the front foot from the first whistle and extend our 5 game winning run.

Swindon aren't playing well and some of their fans are grumbling about recent performances. They're there for the taking on Saturday so let's not make hard work of L2 opposition, a habit we seem to have fallen into in recent times.

I'm expecting a convincing win on Saturday, enjoy the game everyone. UTM.

Probably the strongest link is Danny Williams

Yes I did think about adding him but of course he never played for Swindon, only managed them.

But yes, probably the strongest link.

In fairness most on here would never have seen him play

47,750 pounds if we get into the next round so think we'll have a stronger side than Tuesday without risking players with 2 home league 1 games in mind coming up.

Might have bought something from him in his Sports shop, though

Or at least looked longingly through the window and wished your Mum could afford those Subbuteo floodlights

TBF, I think mine must have come from there (what the hell did I need the floodlights for, the habitual candlelight was enough for young eyes).

I don't think that this match is being televised and aired on ifollow sadly.

If anyone knows otherwise or where I can stream the match please post a link.

Once bought you then found out they needed a odd shaped battery for each pylon

The team losing today gets 15,800 pounds.

Non-league teams who are in this 1st round tie,
received 9,375 pounds, when they won their 4th round qualifying game.

I used to go to Danny Williams shop in Rotherham on a Saturday.
Also just below D W. Shop was Midland opticians, I went there when at junior school.
But biggest thing about the Millers v Swindon Town,
was a game I went to.

                          24th March 2001

                          Rotherham United 4-3 Swindon Town
Mark Robins scored a hat-trick for the Millers.

Thing about it was, myself, my wife & my son were guests of Swindon Town, to which we were seated in the Directors Box.
Sat next to me was Andy King, the Swindon Town manager.
Every time the Millers scored, me & my wife jumped up.
Andy King went down to the touchline dugout, when the game went against Swindon Town.
Brilliant day for Mark Robins, Us & fellow Millers fans.

anyone recall Swindon player Don Rogers in a game ages ago at Millmoor? Think they won a Cup final that year ?
