  • Has our recruitment been affected by offering 1 year deals?

I think someone has finally seen the light at the club and said enough is enough on giving lengthy contracts out and players just walking away at the end on a free, Lenny Agbaire excluded due to his age.

Has this been the real reason no one will sign for the club with only 1 year deals being offered? Makes you wonder if this is what scuppered the Wiredu deal?

I think looking at Benson/Yearwood this has been good business completed by the club. Protracted talks definitely but they signed in the end which is good.

They play for a season and if so, as it is in modern day football now, they walk away on a free but, we hopefully will have had our fair whack out of them both and we move on or, liked what we saw an we extend their contracts with a further one year extension.

    Good business all round.

Is it not more, that they have a history of being a sick note, therefore the 1 +. 1 deal. Makes sense to me

Problem is, 1 + 1 deals might protect the club but they equally don?t give the club any long term development or opportunity for sell on fees. We are once again loving season by season.

This whole topic is a non topic, Benson and Yearwood are one year deals with an option of a further year triggered if they prove their fitness and they play a certain number of games. So effectively 2 year deals for both of them.

To suggest we have been offering 1 year deals to other players is utter nonsense. Hall will be a 3 year deal when announced with a fee paid of circa ?350k

The deal for the centre half will also be a fee of around ?400k if it's the lad I believe it to be, will give you a name on substack when I am more confident of the players identity.

Is Hall signing then? I'm sure I've read somewhere that we've decided not to take him on?

That was the trialist keeper. Hanson is talking of another hall

The real purchasing will have to come at the end of this season.
The amount of players out of contract is going to be more than 50% of them. On top of that the ones leaving will free up the budget spent by Evans. Let us hope that Hammy can get them to show the ability the players have shown whilst they were at other clubs.

One year + deals are for aging and injured players and not for building a successful, during future.

3 years with an option for a further year with progressive signings. Powell we need to extend his contract. If we're going with wing backs need someone stronger than James on the left there.

HensonsPRman, statistically you're more right than wrong on who's coming in but, going back to what I originally posted, even you don't fully know which players have been approached by the club and what they were offered.

Even though they read 1 + 1 contracts for Benson/Yearwood, I stand by what I say in that they are in their initial stage a 1 year contract. After 1 year if they haven't impressed they are shown the door, there is no keeping deadwood onboard. The option for the club who have the right to extend is merely that, in essence, not a 2 year contract that still needs paying to an under performing player.

My initial point was how many players have we approached with a 1+1 contract who have said no because they want the security of at least 2 years......only those in the real know have that answer of which we will probably never know.

Spence,Agbaire and Cann all 2 year deals,Yearwood and Benson 1+1,so not really Brin.
All sensible if you ask me.

Like the one year deals option on these two. I get what your saying brin but I don't think I hindered our signings. Not when money is the first thing that matters.
TBH all the positives about agbaird I would have liked 3 year or a min of 2+1 (unless that's what we have)

It's the lad from abroad. Think his name has been posted around the forum. Denzel think his name was but I'm getting old so it may not be

If it's this guy then looks promising. Came through the youth system at Feyenoord, played internationally for Netherlands as a kid. Right back, 24 years old, played 29 times last season for Heerenveen in the Dutch top flight. If good old Wiki is right he'll still have 2 years on his contract so the 350K price tag that Henson mentioned sounds about right.
