  • Ian Wright on Jude Bellingham

    Link:

Former England striker Ian Wright does not think some people are "ready for a black superstar" following the media treatment of Jude Bellingham.

..... and here's me simply thinking, the young man's got a chip on his shoulder.

    What nonsense.

It's as if he wants a bit of racism just so that he's got something to talk about. But nevermind that, he'll talk about it anyway. An absolute non story.

**** off Ian and take Gary Neville with you.

Just another person of colour making everything about a person of colour.

It?s irrelevant if there are other reasons it has to be about skin colour.
Enabled behaviour facilitated by the usual suspects.

I like Ian Wright, both as a player in his day, and as a pundit, but he has done himself no favours by making this about the colour of Bellingham's skin. The quote from Thomas Tuchel about Bellingham's competetive attitude, in general, and regarding being substituted, is very relevant when he said "I think to a certain degree, if you have players like Jude, who are so competitive, they will never like it [being substituted]," said Tuchel.
The piece also mentions Rashford, Saka and Sancho, getting racially abused after they all missed penalties in the euro final in 2021, which is true, but being white didn't stop David Beckham from receiving some shocking abuse himself when he came back from the world Cup after being sent off against Argentina.
Bellingham is a wonderful talent, but he is far from the finished article just yet and is only 22 years of age so he needs to learn to accept things like being substituted with a little grace and I'm sure he will.
