  • O/T Light the blue (and red) touch paper.....

    Heard a rumour that one consortium interested in the Owls may explore a merger between them and the Blades to create a 'Sheffield' club - obviously have no idea how this will go down in Sheffield, do they?

    let the fireworks commence.....

    I remember a few years ago when it was proposed that too many cities and towns couldn’t afford to have two football clubs.
    The idea was to merge the clubs to reduce costs and suggested sharing stadiums etc. What they always refused to confront was that by merging 2 clubs they wouldn’t have the two owners so would have only half the money.

    It is a crazy idea that like you say does not take into account the fans. I can’t imagine any set of supporter in Sheffield or any other city being happy with losing their club, the history and everything that being a football fan means to join with their biggest rivals.

      Just thinking about a new nickname if clubs did merge.
      Blades and Owls. Bowels?
      That might upset a lot of folk. Lol

      Merging both clubs' colours Red and blue. Purple?
      That might not be palatable to some. Lol
      Any more rumours to set the world on fire?

        I remember back in the Seventies ( I think ) there was talk of a merger between Oxford and Reading. The new club was to be called Thames Valley Royals.
        Both sets of supporters kicked off snd the idea never got off the ground.

          Just checked and it was Robert Maxwell who proposed the merger in 1983.
          Maxwell was the owner of Oxford at the time.
          The new team would alternate playing at both grounds until a new ground was built between the two places probably at Didcot.
          As said above the merger never happened.

            Think you are just being a bit naughty, would never happen for so many reasons.

              Honestly, not - it was a genuine thing that I heard, but I said at the time and for reasons people have stated I could never see it happening
