But it's 3 points, and we had a good 30 minutes. Onwards and upwards.
The problem is why is was a game of two halves. Expect more like it, for at least some time.

Our fan base is toxic. Last season we were truly awful every game today we had the good the bad and ugly at times but we dug in and won.
I genuinely think some on here want us to lose so they can moan.
Who’s going next game? Nope stay at home and ****ing. Moan as usual.
        #toxic disloyal fanbase

Wow. With that in mind, it's all over then.

Sometimes games happen where momentum shifts and teams get a foothold and get on top, even with 10 men. We were too slow out of the blocks in the 2nd half, got bogged down and found it hard to deal with them. Having just been promoted, they're a team on the crest of a wave and what else were they going to do, other than come at us? We need to deal with those pressure situations better and the fact is, we have plenty of options in midfield moving forward to do so.

We won. Can we give the lads some credit for scrapping out 3 points and be patient ffs.

Much has already been said but here are my thoughts on the game, my first ever as a ST holder.

Pitch looked great and had a great view.
            Lovely centenary video.
Set off at lightening speed and could have had 2 in the first 3 minutes.
            Moving tribute to King Ronnie.
Great ball by Rafferty for the 1st goal and 2 well taken goals by Sam.
Hugill couldn't miss in practice but fluffed his lines on the one big chance he got. Looks like he has something similar to the shooting 'yips'. Overall though thought he had a decent game.
Agbaire stood out for the right reasons. Etete stood out for the wrong ones. WTF was that? He made a young Bambi look well balanced.
Not sure what the tactical subs were DM made at half time but MH/DT failed to notice it too until it was too late and their 10 men were bossing our 11.
James' one legged efforts at the end epitomized the team spirit.
Almost comical last 20 minutes where the more it went on the more it looked like they wouldn't score an equalizer.
Does NYS slope to the away end as that's where the action was for 90+ minutes?
Pitch looked like the closing scenes from a WW1 battle film at the end.
Not sure my ticker can take 22 more like that.

You know what..we were second best by a long way second half but this team is our team...not the team of journeymen we could not relate to for the past 2 seasons. I can't wait for the next home game personally. It was so nice to be sat with my lad and enjoy the first half and breath a sigh of relief at the end. Bring the season on I can't wait!

Word I was looking for no leader in midfield Kelly can hardly last the 1st half out. On the left going forward little intricate passing but no one who can get beyond the defence to get a cross in. Two new signings we had on the right when fully up to speed could have more to offer. Obviously need another centre back in & on yesterday's evidence another forward whose not way off ready to start games.

Hall and Agbaire look like two very good signings, both played well and I'd imagine a lot more to come yet. Gore looks every bit a "big six" loanee, and I think there's every chance he gets moved on if he shows more of what he showed yesterday. Powell was very good, and Nombe was absolutely everywhere, more than deserving his goals - went slightly narrow after the second, but understandably, chasing the third.

Vale obviously had a telling off at the break, coming out very early and starting more like a team who'd been promoted. I suspect the referee may have seen the red card incident, or at least been badgered by Moore, because he was operating like he was 'balancing' in the second half after a pretty harsh red (which from the angle I had, he very likely didn't see).

Some tired Millers by the end but got the win. Set off with good intent, worked hard, made a tight defence look very shaky, and I dare say surprised a few - myself included - who expected a tough start. I've said on here before we have some poor fans (not all, but a good serving of them), and the moaning on here typifies some of that. If walking back to the car, in the sun, three points in the bag isn't reason to be cheerful, you're beyond help.

Only negative is my preferred pie being taken off the menu, but I'll get over that.

Well I rather enjoyed it!! Cracking first half an hour, could have gone in 3 or 4 up. Vale have spent heavily this Summer and with nothing to lose, of course they were going for it.
Thought the Ref did well, seeing through the diving. Dawson perhaps fortunate not to be yellow carded.
A vocal away support, good encouragement from our kop, love for Ronnie, blazing sunshine, 3 points. Cheers up everyone.

Another attacker to play alongside Nombe must be brought in and we need a central defender. We very nearly threw that game away after being well in control.

Credit to Darren Moore and his players. They were excellent in the second half.

Benson looked like he had never seen a football in his life before yesterday.

Hopefully it was debut nerves because he looked awful.

If we had played the first half like the second half and vice-versa we would all be a bit worried but we would be delighted!

2-1 home win to start the season is wonderful.

The preseason friendlies? I can see why people are worried about the defence. Thank god we have woody to sort it hopefully!

I don?t know if anyone else spotted how Gore ran his socks off in the first half to nullify their tactic. There was no way that they could play out past the defence.

Port Vale are a good side and will be up there at the end of the season.

MH rot started keeping Holmes & Kayode. Same with the trialists. Carried on with getting players from Europe then Etite. How are we going to get young players through filling bench with players like that. Shows how bad our midfield is he had to start with Kelly whose spent before half time.
