  • MillersMad Match Thread...Millers v Salford

Hello everyone, it's EFL Trophy time again and tonight is our round of 32 tie against familiar opposition, Salford City, aka The Ammies.

    The Boss
Karl Robinson, appointed 5th Jan 2024.

    Player(s) to watch
Daniel Udoh is Salford's top scorer this season with 4 goals.

    Latest Odds
    Salford 4/5 Draw 15/8 Millers 9/4

    Recent Meetings
    (12/08/2025)
    Salford 0 v 0 Rotherham (EFL Cup)
    (Millers win 3-2 on penalties)

    (13/07/2022)
    Salford 1 v 1 Rotherham (pre-season friendly)
    Kayode.

    (05/09/2020)
    Salford 1 v 1 Rotherham (EFL Cup)
    Matt Crooks.
    (Millers lose 4-2 on penalties)

    Summary
Having won all 3 games in a group consisting of Wolves u21s, Stockport and Wigan, it might be fair to assume that Salford have an appetite to do well in this competition. Obviously a lot will depend on the strength of the team they decide to play against us, making the outcome a tricky one to call. One thing to note is that Salford play again on Friday night in the FA Cup against Leyton Orient so some squad rotation seems inevitable on their part.

Likewise for us, I think we all know that MH will ring the changes tonight. It will be interesting to see how we line-up but whoever we start with hopefully we have enough quality to win the game and progress to the next round. Some silverware in our centenary year would be most welcome.

    Enjoy the game, UTM.

There's not much of a history of meetings between Rotherham and Salford, they've met twice before, both times in the League Cup at Salford with both matches settled by a penalty shoot out.

Salford City's current manager Karl Robinson is no stranger to Rotherham United though (W-D-L)
    MK Dons 2 1 1
    Charlton Athletic 1 0 0
    Oxford United 1 1 2
    Salford City 0 1 0
    Overall Played 10, Won 4, Drawn 3, Lost 3

Players who made their Rotherham United debut away at Salford:
Jamal Blackman, James Clarke, Wes Harding, Kieran Sadlier

A-Z of players that have played for both
    Retired players
Tony Cullen, Tom Elliott, Karl Marginson, Michael O'Connor, Scott Wiseman
    Active players
Hakeeb Adelakun, Alex Cairns, Ian Henderson, Jon Taylor, Curtis Tilt
    Active players without a club
    Josh Morris, Richie Towell

Former Rotherham Utd players born in Salford

Dean Emerson, George Hicks, Dean Holden, Nathan Lowndes

      Thanks for this pal.

It will be a cold one but I'm off to see the lads tonight and shout them on.

Love it or loathe it, it's a cup/trophy there to be won and we've done it twice so why not a third time?

Big changes throughout the team tonight and something tells me T. Holmes will start and all through December. Should he break down again before January then he'll be another one sent back, we don't want to be carrying dead wood as we press on towards the end of the season. Stable lad tells me Sherif and Etete have gone already, good.

Don't know what anyone else thinks, but for me this League is wide open this season. No reason why, when we get back the likes of Nombe and recruit reasonably well in January we can't make a push for the play offs.

      Onwards and upwards, UTM!

No sign of Duncan. These are the games to give players like him a chance. Watching on sky sports +

          Hello everyone.

Wasn't there an irish player Trowell that played for us and them?

I am watching from home in a cold and wet Haute Vienne!

I would love a Wembley trip having missed the last one!

          Enjoy the match everyone.

Good chance for the likes of James Clarke and Josh Ayres tonight against Salford reserves. They've made 10 changes tonight from the team which beat Crawley on Saturday.

              Terrible goal to concede!

How slow is Kelly? His thinking is slower than he runs

**** me Raggett. What was that? Think he tried to put it out for a corner, legs seems to wobble under him and instead took it away from our keep straight to their player for a tap in. Rusty to the extreme!

                    Absolute disasterclass from Raggett.

That was so bad it was funny.

Can't see us getting anything here with side we have out. Nothing getting forward. J Holmes why play him on the left? he's right sided.

What are we doing?! Yearwood lets their player ease him out to go at goal. We're all over the place

I?m directly behind the goal and watching that it was a total farce from Raggett. Why not kick it out for a corner.

Suffice to say he got plenty of stick from the fans.

Where is Duncan? If he isn’t injured then it is criminal that he hasn’t started.
Why do we start these Efl trophy games so badly, these players can’t be banging on the managers door asking to start in league games.
Raggett was terrible for the goal a simple left footed clearance and he plays it with his right. Could be 3-0 after 13 minutes, really bad.
