  • O/T Why isn't the Barmy Army more critical?

Another drubbing from a superior, better motivated team. And yet this is supposed to be the Aussie's 2nd XI.

Archer came steaming in. But this was when the game was over.

Two games. Two defeats. And not even close.

So why isn't the barmy army more critical?

I’m more interested in the management not been more critical. For me Stokes,Brooke can go, bowlers going for over 5 an over in test cricket can go.Play like a test team instead of a one day team.

Well that is the core of the problem, Australia play test cricket expecting a five day match. England play bazzball cricket no matter what, a three day match with two days on the golf course

I'm not defending the atrocious failure of our batting by any means , batsman shouldn't be attempting to knock every ball over the ropes and should play every delivery on it's merits .

However we have the cricketers we have because of the relentless amount of white ball cricket that's played so the plan as I see it was to bring that style of cricket in to test cricket because the players of today are a product of that type of cricket .

It clearly hasn't worked because we are beating ourselves rather than sucoming to a vastly superior Australian team , this isnt one of Australia's elite teams of old and we arent some early 90's England team way out of their depth .

This series should have been a real contest between two evenly matched teams with the series still on the line going in to the final Sydney test .

We just haven't come to terms with attacking aggressive cricket and playing smart and that is rooted in arrogance in my opinion and nothing to do with white ball cricket .

Keeping your wicket is as much a skill as a paddle for six off a quick ball or a reverse sweep , something that seems to escape our hard of thinking batsman .

        Embarrassing spectacle .

Trouble with that argument animal, is that everyone plays a similar amount of white ball.

Stokes and Jacks showed what can be achieved by playing each ball on its merit. The problems are lack of preparation and and being too doctrinaire about applying a tactic that clearly doesn't work.

And why was Archer bowling at his fastest when it was too late? Steve Smith called it correctly by saying that Archer only produces when there's nothing to play for.
