  • MillersMad Match Thread...Millers v Stockport County

When you take into account the injuries we have and the lack of desire shown by the players in midweek v Huddersfield, then it's hard to imagine any outcome other than a defeat today, but you never know.

Hamshaw tells us that we have players returning from injury which is obviously welcome news but on the other hand, I read on here that Gore and Powell aren't available. So it will be interesting to see today's line up and whether or not the manager persists with wing backs.

We've got Wimbledon after this game followed by Northampton which, if we lose today, are looking like must win games. Exeter away comes afterwards which is probably a must not lose game.

Huge fixtures are coming down the track for this football club. Do the players have the ability and mentality to get us out of this mess? Today might give us a clue.

    Enjoy the game everyone. UTM.

''Do the players have the ability and mentality to get us out of this mess? '' Some have but won't apply themselves as much.

End of season they're out of a job so it's lazy time again for some of them. Just picking up a wage with the 'so what' attitude as was shown at Huddersfield. Is Hamshaw to blame for that also? I don't think he is, it's the way of the modern mercenary footballer.

It's only a skip over to Stockport so I would expect a 1000 plus to attend from us. If it falls way below that, then our own fans are also voting with their absence showing that this is simply just not good enough.

I will ask one burning question. Had the massive injury list happened to say Warney/Evans, would they have done any better with what Hamshaw has had at his disposal this season?

Safe journey there and back to all who attend today. Here's hoping for Nombe/Gray to bag us winning goals. UTM!

Brin the question should Warne or Evans have done better us irrelevant pal. MH has to do better it?s about time we all including me stopped referring to the past. Judge him on results it?s that simple.

        100% agree

8 losses wouldn?t be tolerated by many clubs today and it may be his downfall

Rotherham United and Stockport County have faced one another on 67 occasions in all competitions, a fixture whose origins can be traced back to 6 November 1926. Their first meeting took place at Edgeley Park in the old Third Division North, where Rotherham suffered a 3–1 defeat in testing circumstances.
Rotherham who had been placed at a significant disadvantage during the first half when Ernest Higginbottom was forced to leave the field for treatment, after a tackle with Stockport County defender Len Williams, leaving Rotherham effectively a man short for some fifteen minutes. Although he returned after the interval, he did so in clear discomfort and played out the remainder of the match while noticeably limping.
Stockport capitalised through goals from Tommy Meads, Billy Johnston and Tommy Scurr, while Charles Ramsden provided RotherhamÂ’s only goal.

Rotherham UnitedÂ’s away record at Stockport reflects a challenging fixture over the decades, with the Millers winning 26% of their visits (8 matches), drawing 22% (7), and losing 52% (16).

The highest attendance for a meeting between the sides at Edgeley Park came during the 1950–51 season, when attendances across the country were at their highest. The clubs faced each other twice within the space of a week in August 1950: first a goalless draw at Millmoor, followed by the return fixture in front of 14,937 spectators. On that occasion, Rotherham recorded a convincing 3–1 victory, with Gladstone Guest scoring twice and Jack Shaw adding a third, while Les Cocker provided Stockport’s reply.
At the opposite end of the scale, the lowest attendance for this fixture occurred on 23 March 1974. Rotherham entered the match in the bottom four and facing the prospect of re‑election to remain in Division Four, while Stockport sat just outside the danger zone. A solitary goal from Steve Derrett secured a ***** win for the Millers, witnessed by only 1,789 supporters. Stockport finished that season bottom of Division Four and facing re-election, whilst Rotherham finished in 15th position.

Across all of RotherhamÂ’s away fixtures at Edgeley Park, attendances have averaged 7,048. Stockport have recorded an average of 1.94 goals per game at home in this fixture, compared with RotherhamÂ’s 1.13.

Rotherham have failed to score at Edgeley Park on ten occasions. Their scoring record in the remaining matches shows a spread of outcomes: one goal in ten games, two goals in eight, and three goals in three.

          AI Prediction
Current form paints a contrasting picture. Rotherham come into the game on a difficult run, having lost their last six, while Stockport’s recent record — three wins, two defeats and a draw — suggests a side that’s at least finding moments of consistency.
The historical “on this day” numbers add another layer of ambiguity: Rotherham have won seven, drawn two and lost eight on this date across their history. It’s a mixed record that doesn’t strongly favour either outcome.
Put together, the form guide leans toward Stockport, but the long‑term patterns donÂ’t rule out a competitive contest. If Rotherham can steady themselves early and avoid the lapses that have cost them in recent weeks, the match could settle into a tight, tactical affair.
Prediction: A cautious 1–1 draw feels like the midpoint between Stockport’s stronger form and Rotherham’s potential to break their run.

Not watching today I have a family event so good luck to the fans that travel and to the team. We need a better performance and I hope Harry starts well and no injuries. I don't think MH should have survived after new years day but as I said elsewhere a manager change would have meant having to do more in the window financially and that wasn't going to happen. I hope he proves me and others wrong and we win every game and stay up, but my head expects another defeat, more injuries and more excuses.

Raggett ahead of Jules and Agbaire. Wow.

Surely we can't be playing with Jack Holmes as a wing back. I'm hoping we're going for a kind of 442 with Kaleta and Rafferty full backs.

Can?t see anything else but a defeat ! No Powell, Douglass, Gore, no left footers ! Midfield consists of three defensive players Kelly, McWilliams and Yearwood, not a lot going forward there ? Caleta and Holmes wing backs ? can?t expect much there also ! If Rafferty and Holmes are the custodians of the right side it could get embarrassing? Who is on corners and free kicks ? admittedly can?t be much worse than all season.
Miracles can happen and it would take one !

It's a shocking midfield lineup. I can't even begin to know what's happening with these.
Only gtd is Dawson is in goal
                        and maybe
hugill and gray are up front. Saying that hamshaw could be playing gray as attacking midfielder/RB/LB or anywhere else

                            Bench is looking better.
Jules Agbaird Nombe Spence and James.
Not convinced about young Clarke. He looked shocking midfield week playing RwB (not the first time) and cann from the few times I've seen him. obvious why Dawson is in front of him

If we're playing Holmes and Kaleta as wing backs then Hamshaw may as well write his own resignation letter. Jack Holmes has struggled in that position against Vertu Trophy opposition. As for Raggett, how is he getting a game before Lenny and Zac?

If we're playing Rafferty, Raggett and Baptiste as 3 CBs with Jack Holmes as RWB then this has 5-0 written all over it.

We MUST be playing a back 4, surely.
