No we can't afford him but why would you not want him?Originally posted by RU66 View PostWe couldn't afford him. Didn't want him anyway.
He played 37 times for Birmingham last season, including 27 starts. Scored 7 goals and got 5 assists. He's a right footed winger and can play left or right. 19 appearances this season in the Championship.
Do you think he'd improve our team? Just a yes or no will do.

According to the ?Tiser he was injured (leg) and is back this week so you can put the conspiracy theory to bed. Either way, I am not sure why the focus is on Martha. All of MHs signings have been 5hite so why pick on the one?Originally posted by Brin View PostTechnically gifted in what sense? He's good at twisting and turning? He certainly doesn't get into the heavy side of football due to his slight build. Can't win headers, doesn't go for the tackle, thinks he has the ability to take 2/3 players on getting robbed off the ball all the time, doesn't track back and help out. In other words he ain't got a lot going for him.
If he feels like he's made a mistake, let him put in a transfer rquest and let's offload him and at least get back what we paid for him.
He's not injured but didn't even make the bench last Saturday, what's that tell you? Unless there's a personal issue going on in his life.

Baptiste has been good of late, started poorly. Loan in any case.Originally posted by Derbymiller View PostNwc Baptiste is a good player, Spence is ok if fit the rest haven't looked good investments
Spence is a solid player at this level, injuries permitting.
Benson likewise, but injuries were flagged as he was signing, so as an investment it's not worked.
Agbaire looked good early but since Bradford mauled him (H) and injuries he's dipped.
Hall has been rock solid most games, unfair to suggest he's not been worth the handful of coins we'll have paid.
Martha has been discussed to death, will only prove a sound investment if we either profit or see him live up to the obvious talent.
Kaleta and Yearwood haven't played enough to suggest they were worth spending the wages (or fee in Kaleta's case).
Cann is presumably a dirt cheap option to fill the back up role rather than offer competition.
In contrast to last year's signings, it's been more expensive in fees but likely less in wages. Rafferty, Powell and James were good signings, the rest range from JCH levels of awful through to mediocre shirt fillers like MacDonald and Jules... but... SE and MH (with RS in tow) both outdid Taylor who gave us Ti?hi, Ayala, Hall, Caf?, Green etc.
Not a great summer window, but hard to find any where they were all good. 2020 was probably the best in recent memory with Viktor, Barlaser, Harding, Vickers... but half the fan base hates Warne for some reason.

Ulley, you're wasting your breath, some have a thing with Hamshaw, and will take against anything and anybody associated with him.
Martha seems to be the latest target for abuse, and while he's frustrating, in the right set up he will be asset.
I see him as bit of a "luxury " player at the minute, so you need the likes of Gore and Spence playing alongside him to fo the dirty work.

You absolutely do need those lads. There's no sense in thinking Martha is a wing back, a defensive midfielder, or a box-to-box player. His talent is obvious, the role he needs to play is clearly up top, and like any forward they're going to frustrate a lot of the time. It's a shame that fans want to show people the door rather than point to how they could be better deployed. We'll always have a hard time at this club because our fans fundamentally do two things consistently: 1) Divide on managerial appointments, and 2) Have next-to no patience with any 'flair' players who don't break their backs to defend aswell.Originally posted by Townerslovechild View PostUlley, you're wasting your breath, some have a thing with Hamshaw, and will take against anything and anybody associated with him.

If Hamshaw would switch to a back 4 I'd quite like to see Martha played as a right winger (he does have good pace) with Rafferty at full back behind him.Originally posted by UlleyMiller View PostYou absolutely do need those lads. Martha's biggest problem is his lack of physical strength which is one reason he can't defend so playing him as a wing back is frankly ridiculous.
I don't think we'll ever see the best of him until he's given a regular, specific role.

I'd agree with that because not only is Rafferty better suited to a flat 4 (IMHO) but he's so strong in that role that Martha would end up almost how Chieo finished as a dedicated RW/floating forward role. I've seen Martha have a couple of flashpoints with opposing players and it looked like there's a bit more to him than people think... but it may need his temper to have gone to get there, so maybe that's just someone to fire him up a bit. He does need a regular role, and for fans to accept that some players aren't well suited to switching positions every game.Originally posted by mellowmiller View PostIf Hamshaw would switch to a back 4 I'd quite like to see Martha played as a right winger (he does have good pace) with Rafferty at full back behind him.
