  • O/T knife crime.

Just been watching the tragic news on the Sheffield lad getting killed. They are wanting knife arches in schools. £2500 roughly for a knife arch. Who’s going to pay for it and what good will it do. 4182 secondary schools in England that would be £ 9 million plus.
It starts at home with parenting and we need stronger sentences for carrying a knife

Totally agree. Knife archers would be a symbolic response.

These crimes are horrific but the response has to sit with parenting and societial response. Anyone who takes a knife out with them, should expect a 10 year stretch.

Yes and we need to target resources correctly

It has to be admitted that the bulk of these offences, victim and perpetrator, is the ? sons of Windrush? community.

There?s something badly wrong in that section of our society but nobody wants to admit to it.

Put your resources to combat knife crime where they are most effective

I feel sorry for the teachers. They aren’t and shouldn’t be responsible for challenging this in schools. I agree it starts at home. What are the parents doing to educate their children. If you trace it back the home life will have a big bearing on the behaviour. Not in every case but most imo. Tougher sentences for carrying needs to be implemented.

I don’t think you can only link it back to that one community. There are other communities that have entered into the UK in the last 70 years plus that also have a liking for the blade. What I will add as well, is that the British youth of today are also now being influenced by these cultures. As such I would not be at all surprised if the Sheffield assailant was white. But I don’t know.

Young people from predominantly working class backgrounds have always fought each other , mods n rockers , football hooliganism or kids from Wombwell fighting kids from Brampton after school in the 70's .

Knifes have replaced fists and I dare say give it enough years and guns will replace knifes if they haven't already in some areas especially London .

Your never going to save everyone but I think if you put resources in to things like sport or can provide better opportunities for young people to lift themselves out of street life / gang culture you might have half a chance .

Products of your own environment isn't an easy thing to escape from when your young and don't know anything else .

Perhaps if we invested more money in to tough areas we might see a return on that further down the line .

Correct in a way but resources need to be targeted at hot spots initially

We've most definitely inherited some battles due to mass immigration that we didn't have previously .

It probably wouldn't be a good idea to take a walk in Batley or Dewsbury town centres with a skull cap on for instance .

If we are to believe that many asylum seekers are escaping conflict and persecution from certain parts of the world then is it reasonable to believe it will inevitably play out on our streets too ? , you can take the man out of Somalia but wouldn't the conflict still reside ? .

What about escaping poverty and deprivation ? , aren't you simply replacing poverty and deprivation with a better class of poverty and deprivation which ultimately leads to higher levels of crime over here ?

Or are we to believe that everyone claiming asylum will eventually turn their lives around become good law abiding citizens and add value to our country and work in the NHS ?

The downside of mass immigration isn't something the traditional political class or it's supporters are too comfortable talking about .
