Inspired by IBS thread on album covers.

Hard to see past The Stone Roses Debut for me 1989 and really ahead of its time

All from the same era, was going to go for From A to B (New Musik), deferred to At The Chelsea Nightclub (The Members) but finally settled on The Age Of Plastic (The Buggles).

As you say no right or wrong answers. But my top 5 would be

          Stone roses - Stone Roses
          Cocteau Twins - Garlands
          New Order - Movement
          Swervedriver - Raise
          Catherine Wheel - Ferment

Rage against the machine - RAGTM

Suede- suede, discovered this years later an amazing album

              Stone roses - stone roses

              The music - the music

Nirvana - bleach $600 to make on an 8 track, amazing and raw

              The vines - highly evolved.

Candy skins - fun? Indie pop at its finest.

              Kasabian - kasabian

These albums not debut but still amazing

              Radiohead - the bends
              Cypress hill - black Sunday
Prodigy - music for the jilted generation

I?m sure could think of loads more, always just depends on what mood I?m in, could never pick just one.

Swevedriver great call, love that album.

                          Tricky - Maxinquaye
Kamasi Washington - The Epic (technically not a debut, but first release on a legit label)
                          Arcade Fire - Funeral
                          The Smiths - The Smiths
                          Pixies - Come On Pilgrim
Ornette Coleman - The Shape of Jazz to Come
                          Wu-Tang Clan - 36 Chambers
                          R.E.M. - Murmur
                          Stone Roses - Stone Roses
                          Nas - Illmatic
                          Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin
Guns n' Roses - Appetite for Destruction
                          Gang of Four - Entertainment
De La Soul - 3 Feet High
                          Jeff Buckley - Grace
                          Magazine - Real Life
Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left
                          Television - Marquee Moon
Kendrick Lamar - Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City

Objectively, Lauryn Hill's solo debut and Pearl Jam's Ten are great, but I don't think they hit like any of the above.

1989 was obviously a pretty stunning year for debuts - De La Soul, Stone Roses, NWA, Nirvana, wow!

Very good, Lol! Not a lot of people know that!

For me the English version since that?s what I bought at the time. I actually bought it as a present for my best mate for his birthday in 1968 but he wasn?t that bothered with it and ended up giving it back to me. Still have it and still play it. (Favourite track: ?Salad Days? but I like them all. Keith Reid wrote everything.)
