Steve Bruce is a friend of TS. Not saying I?d be over the moon with it but he?s a close friend. Personally I think they will leave him till the end of the season if the announcement doesn?t come today.

Surely quantity is a reflection of quality? As noted, take a couple of quality tenures out of our list and we haven't got much to write home about, but nor have many clubs including the likes of ManU.Originally posted by mellowmiller View PostIt's not about quantity, it's about quality.

To be honest CAM I'm not really interested in what other clubs do or have done.Originally posted by CAMiller View PostSurely quantity is a reflection of quality? I just question TS's judgement when it comes to appointing managers.
Remember we're always told there are lots of high quality applicants.......

I wonder if one of the applicants was a Funeral Director, because the club is in a critical condition.Originally posted by mellowmiller View PostTo be honest CAM I'm not really interested in what other clubs do or have done.

Looking at investors, would you put money into a club where the owner & the rest of the board have not got a clue on football, ie contracts & valuations for players.
I would make sure I could put my penny worth Into where my money is being spent.
It's been said Paul Douglas does not control the coffers in the club, so what's his job, just a gaffer.
Retire Douglas, use his wage to get someone in who has football knowledge in running a club.
Whether Smith on the board, has football knowledge, we have to hope so.

If the club is as low as people think then wit would be a better time to invest.Originally posted by Ericsladkilnhurst View PostLooking at investors, would you put money into a club where the owner & the rest of the board have not got a clue on football, ie contracts & valuations for players.

If Phil Smith brings on board some much needed revenue through sponsorship and the club changes the way it is run (and it has to) then there is a great opportunity there.
I think Smith has as much football knowledge than we all do but his business knowledge seems to be right. His connections in business is right.
Let us not forget that TS has ran the club like a business with great effect being held as an example of how clubs should be run financially. That is not just him but the people he has put in place.
I am with Mellow in thinking that he could leave the club in exactly the same position as he found us. But contrary to that the invitation to Phil Smith leaves me with hope that the future is bright.
Looking at it long term.
Smith puts in a competent team in place or in addition to what is there then it bodes well.
The off field revenue increases and more money comes available to the manager.
The long term development of players starts to bring in the riches and the price played for younger tallent increases and in turn the quality and returns on those players increases.
A four year plan maybe before we see real benefits if you consider what Warne was able to do on the pitch.
A one year plan in the reorganising of the interior of the club.
Communication with the fans is done with more that 2 media guys at most clubs so an increase in that department will be needed!
There is so much to do and it will take time.
Should TS change managers now? We are not even 2 months into the project with Smith.
And to be honest everything Smith is talking about MH was talking about in the summer. (Date - second week in August 2025 and location Rawmarsh!)

The faith lost by TS is his own making but I see light at the end of a long tunnel with the introduction of Phil Smith.Originally posted by MillerBill View PostIt's not just changing the manager,we need new ownership.Nobody trusts TS now and he has failed with his appointments and lack of financial support, which have caused this downfall.I have spoken to lots of fans, with season tickets, who are not turning up and will not until he goes.
If he introduces a buyer that can take the club forward then it is great as long as the buyer is not going to do the same as TS.
Let us face it. Looking back to Booth, we would have loved it if we could bring our own youth through and buy young players to develop and sell on. TS gave us that when he appointed Warne. (I know I have mentioned him a couple of times now but he won't be coming back even though he was supposedly offered the job and refused it before MH considered it). But it was a model that worked for a while!
We had more young international players at our club than we have ever had. Players sold for ?1m plus was often.
That was what us older fans, the ones who spent a Tuesday evening in the cold at Milloor wanted.
It went downhill when Warne left.Last edited by frogmiller; 23-02-2026, 10:47 AM.

Rumoured to have been a meeting this morning between Hamshaw and Stewart et al but Hamshaw said to have gone on to take training so yet another stay of execution.? Get the impression Mr Smith is now making the decisions and seems he doesn?t want to sack him.Unfathomable.

The only way a new owner makes any difference is money. Pure and simple. TS is not an idiot, you dont have the success he has had not knowing what you are doing.
To address your points:-
How does off the field revenue improve? What is this new previously untapped revenue stream?
How is Smith any better qualified to hire a "competent team" - TS has been doing this for years, he must have learnt something by now?
We have bought younger talent this season - we are all going nuts because they are struggling - how does this change?
Communications - what are we missing?
Not defending TS - i think his time is coming to an end - but, be careful what we wish for, we dont need another Coleman or Rutnizew (Polish named bloke) with loads of good ideas but no ??? to back it up.
