Not being the worst is not the point. We need to move forward.
He is significant slower than when he came, which gets him constantly caught out, choose whichever position he is in.

Nothing against a good pro, but I am sure he would recognise time passes.

We need fresh legs. And a whole lot more!

With all the injury prone players, here we have one who has been available, who doesn't fall into the aging crock category yet people want him gone. He's a full back being asked to play wing back or CH. He's not the greatest but he hasn't been the worst player and has arguably done better than some some of our CH in a back three, when its not his natural position.
He has been, by some distance, the worst player and consistently so.

He also flaps and panics, not great qualities for a captain.

I’m sorry but for me he’s been one of our better players re availability and consistency, he’s our captain and if we had a few others like him wouldn’t be in this position, he always seemed to be the scapegoat when the 1st substitute was made under MH, sounds like I’m in the minority and that’s ok

I'm sure we all recognise the strengths he used to have. No need to apologise. I for one wish he was still like his first 6 months with the club.

On the plus side he seems to have an involvement in most goals we score. On the negative side he seems to have an involvement in most goals we concede.

I guess without him we could have had 38 0-0 draws and been 2pts better of than we are, but very bored

Joe is decent full back who does seen to care what happens, he isn't a wing back or a CB,play him in his position with someone more attack minded on the right.

We have 12 players out of contract (including Rafferty and Yearwood with options), plus 5 loans, plus Nombe, Hall and, if he has a good WC, Martha moving on. That's 19 players Rob Scott and the management team have to replace or recontract. He may not be outstanding but lightening that workload has got to be a good thing

Rafferty has been played out of position. A lot this season, he isn't a wingback or centre back and he isn't the only player put in this situation. I think if we want to keep some experience next season in league 2 then Rafferty and James if played in a 4 would be the best options from those we have. Powell is far too good for L2 and for us and he will move on to a top half L1 side and do well for them. The rest can go and being that RS, SE, MT and MH recruited so badly you would need to hire a coach to ship all the cross out of NYS.

If a keeper has a solid defence in front of him, he can be said to keep a clean sheet. Nonsense.
If a player is played OOP, but we win, not much notice taken. He is ok. Nonsense.

What happens with a team as a whole is often far more important than a single.

When rafferty played with douglas and james in a THREE and we were ok, no one on here complained about the hamshaw three.

Team situations often are more complex than a player. Unless that happens to be a glaring failure or constant which would happen regardless. That is the only time we can truly be specific.

That was the start of our downfall before Xmas playing James in a back 3 & getting injured. He's our only left sided player who gets behind the oppositions defence.

You have selective memory syndrome, there have been a lot of fans that have pointed out that MH obsession with three at the back even when we didn't have the players to play it was a mistake, guess what they were right.
MH was not a competent football manager, his failings have been magnified by the failings elsewhere in the club. He has gone now and i wish him well in his coaching career, where I am sure he will earn a decent living.
Unfortunately the damage has been done in so many ways over the last few years and we are now suffering the consequences, to stay up we need to win 5 out of 8 games, we are down, we have been down for quite some time. I hope we win a few of the 8 but JR contract is not a huge concern to me, what is a concern is that our new non-exec has stated twice now in interviews that we are not a broken club, I would love him to follow up that statement with some examples of what he sees that we don't.
