  • O/T....Great Lost Bands/Singers

Might as well stay away from footie for the time being,so for some light relief, how about some musical greats that many people may never have heard of/forgotton about.

1.The Blue Nile....Scottish band who only ever released 3 albums, one of my favourite bands of the 80`s who at the time rarely got played on the radio, but for me should have been huge.
Have a listen to the album "Hats",what a singer.

2.The Sundays....imagine if when the Smiths broke up,Johnny Marr formed a pop band with a brilliant female singer, this is pretty much The Sundays.
Again, only ever released 3 albums, but perfect Jangly Pop all of them, with Harriet Wheeler`s sublime vocals.

3.Porcupine Tree....if you`re into rock music,of pretty much any type then PT are the band for you.
Have been making albums since the 90`s,their music covers most genres,Metal,Prog,Jazz Rock,Pop Rock,Hard Rock, fronted by the genius that is Steven Wilson.
Have a listen to the albums Signify or Fear Of A Blank Planet for starters, you`ll be glad you did.

    Ok...over to you,what have I been missing ?

Orange Bicycle was an English psychedelic pop band, which existed between 1967 and 1971. The band played a style influenced by The Beach Boys, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and the hippiecounter culture.

Isn't the tag 'great' a personal evaluation rather than a measure of how good they actually were? If they were truly great wouldn't they have actually been heard of in the general public domain?

Anyway, subjectivity aside here's my list of bands I actually liked from my preferred musical era, some are still going in some fashion, all have probably been heard of but never achieved greatness.

CAM punk/new wave was an alternative to most chart music back then.

        2 examples:
        Radio Stars
        The Fall
