  • The Matt Taylor way was 'the way'

He understood that high octane pressing football was never going to work in the long term as this would cause injuries, especially towards the back end of the season and we couldn't afford to build a large good quality squad. Instead Taylor tried to build another approach based on patience, possession, recycling the ball etc

This is the way..not saying Matt Taylor was the right man but it was the right idea

By contrast, Paul Warne's philosophy (his only one really) is to sign big tall aggressive players who can indeed press for 90 minutes without crocking themselves. This served him well in lower divisions but he comes unstuck in the Championship where more flair and coaching ability are needed.

Taylor started this mess signing past-it perma-crocks and spunking ?1.2m on Nombe - what a shocking signing that has been!

Agreed. But the style of play he was trying to get us to play, was a good idea.

.....and remind me again where he took us with his style of play

I will explain again for those who didn't read my post thoroughly.

Matt Taylor's 'idea' of sitting back, playing patiently and counter attacking is the way forward if we are to survive in the championship. Charging about pressing etc will cause injuries especially as the season progresses.

Matt Taylor was not a good man- manager, nor was he good in the transfer market but his 'idea' of how to play was sound.

A broken clock is right twice a day, etc...

Taylor was a poor manager, and after a very good manager it was all the more striking. There are different approaches which can work at Championship level, just like any other level. Taylor's 'idea' was neither uniquely his, suited to the players we had, nor the only 'correct' idea.

Hang on. It’ll be two years plus before we need worry about the championship……

Yeah, of course it was right. Then he got sack at Bristol Rovers after us. What plan did he adopt there?

Don't think Exeter fans are fond of "his way" either.

Slightly off topic but I see some Reading fans are turning against Leam Richardson now their push for the play offs is fading.
                        We can't half pick 'em.

Disagree - to play that way you still need to be extremely fit and have technical ability
