Missed promotion to the top division on goal average in 1955.

Was it Emlyn's team that just missed out on top flight in 82ish? Would that team (after Gow joined) have beaten Porterfield's team? Would have been closer, and many of players the same. But with added Gow, what a run they went on. Can't think of any better in my life time

Yes, that was more or less Porterfield team with the addition of Jerry Gow and the winger from Everton who scored the winner DIVOT goal at Wednesday forgot his name.

Got as high as 4th for a while but finished in 9th place. The highest we have reached in my time. Relegated the following year I think...enter George Kerr.

Got as high as third and finished seventh. So even better than you thought.

Thanks Beau, was a long time ago and the memory not quite as it was...nearly right, and yes Sawmiller it was Joe McBride caused Jack Charlton some angst with that divot.
