  • O/T Affordability checks for punters.

Bookmakers don't give a fk about them only that it will lower their profit margins. I agree with it cause I had a gambling problem had an account was lumping more & more on. Came to a head in 2014 when I had a losing day at Royal Ascot then doubled my losses chasing them with another loser later. Came to my senses then only had odd bet at the Cheltenham festival since.

    'Tis true, RU66
Bookies don't give a fig if they see a punter lumping on lots of cash that they can ill afford to lose. Up and coming meetings at York, Epsom and Royal Ascot should be approached with caution. Those meetings are bookies' benefit days.
I tend to watch out for flat horses which have done well in 2025 but haven't been entered into any race just yet in 2026. There's a couple out there if you look. Then it's a case of limiting your stake money to reap a small return if you decide to have a punt.

There's always the option of staying away from the betting arena for good.

I used to study ratings in handicaps but that worked better in smaller fields. More or less told you horse's that couldn't win. Paid a tipster once he gave me 4 or 5 winners straight off but I had to put him 50 pounds on his selection but if it won he only wanted winnings back not the stake. But couldn't get no one to come in with me so turned his next tip down it didn't win but he stopped sending me them then.

Sounds alot 50 pounds but horses he tipped weren't big prices around 2's

Sounds like you were caught with your pants down. He stopped sending them to you simply cos you didn't pay him anymore.

Why, if anyone was allegedly knowledgable, why would they need a Tipster of all people? If Tipsters are that good why do they tout for extra money? They just look for mug paunters and live of that when in fact they should be millionaires.

His tips weren't in big races. Never heard of some of the horses he tipped. Said he had info from yards down south. 4 or 5 winners straight off says they knew something. But next tip was in a bigger field over the jumps at Newbury & alot of the top stables at the time had runners in it. So turned tip down it didn't win so never heard from him again.

His 1st tip was free. That won next 4 same all did so put his stake on. Had his bank account details sent winnings only to it. He needed to know before the race if I was going to place the bet. So next one said I wasn't told me over the phone be no more tips from him.

Summer jump racing sources are criticising the lack of runners but your most chance of finding winners there than in the big flat meetings. Bookies make their money in the summer no doubt. Cheltenham festival this year I tipped both the champion hrd & gold cup winners both won how favourites should more a punters benefit then.
