  • Please explain if you are against Mclaren

For me his appointment is the best news we have had in decades.

Yet, still some fans are dismissive. I honestly find this unfathomable.

If you are against it, please put forward your case and try and change my mind

Not against him at all and am in a half excited half nervous state about what is happening I think this comes from a combination of no info coming out of the club, the time frame we are in with the new season etc and the sheer incompetence of our hierarchy at the club to get the job done
I look back now and wonder what was the point of Lee Clark coming in at all, it has echoes of the Leam Richardson debacle a couple of years ago, I think the main thing that concerns me is will he have us geared up for the rough and tumble of League 2 we need battlers especially through the spine of the team a Smudge type up front a Woody type at the back with a half decent keeper please, yes we do need a bit of skill of course but mainly we need battlers and if it’s not too much trouble some players who can last the course
McLaren is surely used to better quality players to work with than league 2 standard that is my main concern, having said all that surely his contacts and name/reputation will help us attract a better quality player if only on loan

McClaren & TS are apparently friends that can't be a reason for him to be overseeing team affairs here. Needs someone to challenge TS like Evans did 1st time as manager at this club.

Just about everyone on here has been crying out for something to happen for a long time,to the point of abusing the current chairman, which is a disgrace.
To me it looks like the stars are aligning,Phil Smith on the scene, foriegn investors sniffing around,McC lurking about, and Clark no longer needed, could be some very big changes afoot.
Could be next exiciting chapter in our history, lets hope so.

Lets see how it all unfolds in the coming days. If the Swiss are true in their intentions, what part have they played in who comes in? Surely they need to be involved?

What I don't get, (I've been on hols), if Mclaren and TS are friends thro SM applying for the Manangers job in the past, who actually got the job infront of him? Or is there something more devious lurking in the background?

Brollyman becomes DOF at a club in debt and won’t be spending money, said man brings in a lacklustre mate as manager, look out for all the div 2 free agents being signed. Brollyman has never worked with lower league players, won’t understand what is required, him and his mate has to start from near scratch, and he hasn’t got much of a record either.

His lacklustre mate has 3 promotions on his CV.

Ok, let me sense check you. Tell me what you think is required at this level that McClaren won't understand. That's a direct question.

Using your logic, you're saying that NO elite manager or player (past or present) would be suitable to be DOF at Rotherham United if they haven't already worked at this level, because they won't understand what's required. That's a heck of an assumption. Aside from that, you're aware the two roles are different, right?

But hey, why look up when we can look down? Let's never appoint anyone from a level above just in case we get there.

And by the way, SM spent a significant amount of his playing career in the lower leagues. So not correct to say that he's never worked with lower league players, or managers for that matter

And judging from SM interview, not very far.

I thought his interview was very good, he spoke well and comes across as understanding the size of the challenge. I hope that TS backs his ideas and helps move our club forward. Interesting that he talked about Cambridge and how they built a new training ground and rebuilt their squad. We need real footballers not light weight fragile players. Let us see what happens now we will need to get and keep our players on the pitch.

Only Rotherham fans could whinge about someone who managed England, and was Middlesbrough's most successful ever manager, and did well at Derby.
                          We're a little club in the 4th division for f*cks sake !
Welcome Steve, and good luck you're gunna need it.

I think most fans are in favour of a Director of Football coming in because we have have been clueless on how to run a club for far too long. However, previous managers have identified the faults we have at this club but no action was taken to correct the problems.Steve McClaren is as good as we could have hoped for and no doubt, he will also bring up these faults that need rectifying. It will be very interesting to see what support he gets from the chairman.I really hope Steve stands his ground and is a success because the fans have been through torrid times and deserve a ray of light.

Totally agree it?s obvious that supporters like mellow and LOLmorgan as an example have done the hard years and quite rightly express concerns. Then there are the ones who are only interested in moaning and slagging off everyone and everything.

                              I think it?s a great appointment and it?s what we have needed/wanted.
