  • We have one person who never understood why we had any success we had before, done so well by warne on a shoestring budget.
    Why being the key.
And another who is quietly spoken, moderated, calculated sounding, knowledgable without really revealing much so far and I think has not grasped the size of the problem. Or since he said he wanted simpson in from the start because of his lower league work knows he does not know the division.

So quite how all that is to work and is showing it probably will not, is where we are.

And derbs thinking one ex pal and the last seeing and listening and saying no thanks could be a bullseye comment.
Simpson not coming, I understand, I would not. And the only bit of SM ego is him thinking simpson would drop tools and come.

At this point, 10 days to training. I dread what is to come.

My gut feeling all along was it was not going to be workable. It is way way worse than anyone with any doubts could have imagined.

    • What I can't understand is why it has taken so long to be turned down by Burchnall and now Sadler. Burchnall, it appears, got a better offer from Bristol City. As for Sadler, if it's true that he wanted more control, then why is he talking to us in the first place? Surely that would be on the table from the start. It'll be interesting to see if he's linked to a job elsewhere.

Really cannot understand why it's taking so long to find the right man. We're essentially just looking for a coach who shares McClaren's footballing philosophy. How hard can it be? This role might have suited Hamshaw 12 months ago.

As for Richard Wood, I can see him taking it on a temporary basis until McClaren finds his man.

      • I’m generally a happy clapper but this is now crisis point. I fear for us financially I have said this before I wouldn’t be surprised if we end up going into administration. The last few weeks have been telling and totally unacceptable. We are in a complete mess and I think the problems run deeper than we think. This isn’t happening by chance imo.

I'd be moving Wood out of the club. Not cut out to be a coach apart from driving one!

          • I'm guessing the player budget is putting potential managers off.

            • It doesn't take days or weeks for people to know the budget, one meeting in one afternoon can sort that, it will be personal terms related to authority and remuneration that goes backwards and forwards. The issue is we had a man that wanted the job, he had ideas, plans and knew the scale of the challenge. We said no, I think because he was too outspoken and told it as it is and TS cannot cope with a person like that. We then bring Mr October and he has got it totally wrong so far and is out of his depth. We are lunging from one disaster to the next and it doesn't seem that the knight in shining armour Mr Smith has made any real difference. No manager, no squad, players ready to leave, no addressing of the backroom issues it really couldn't be much worse, how has it got to this.

                • TS and the COO asked Matt Hamshaw to compile a dossier on what needed doing to sort out the problems at the club.
He wrote a detailed document but then the top brass decided they didn't want to see it.
Probably too many home truths in there.
Presumably Lee Clark and now Steve McClaren discovered exactly the same negative issues and now the pigeons have come home to roost.
                  What now Mr Stewart?

This is becoming quite disconcerting - at least put someone in temporary charge so that we can train and not miss out on recruitment

I think that's probably the only option now which is why Richard Wood's name keeps getting mentioned.
I wouldn't envy him if he gets dropped into what would be a no win situation because everyone will know there was no planning involved in making the appointment.

                          • If wood is appointed we will not do well, we need an experienced manager not a retired player and a egotistical head of football

I don't think anyone is advocating Wood for the role but nobody from outside seems to want the job so he might end up being the only option.

                              • As some of you know, I haven?t posted for a while because I?ve been falling out of love with the club for some time. The warning signs were there last season, but this feels like a whole new level ? arguably as bad as 2007, and at least back then we had a team capable of fighting the -17.

I?ve followed this club since 1965 and I honestly can?t remember a period that feels this bleak.

I?m really struggling with the current Director of Football model. I?m not convinced it?s working for us, and I worry that it limits the type of manager who would take the job. As far as I understand, he?s also working without a contract, which doesn?t help the situation.

For the first time, I?m genuinely worried about us sliding towards non-league if something doesn?t change.

So I?m asking the Chairman to rethink the direction of the club before it?s too late. It would undo years of hard work and progress that this club fought tooth and nail to achieve.
