Fantastic player and person. Totally epitomizes the word 'Professional'.
Recall his very early years under O'Leary at Leeds, seems an absolute age.
Certainly left a mark wherever he played. Good luck with whatever he chooses to do next.
Some record this........

Absolutely but I bet he never encountered a training ground set up like Roundwood 🙂Originally posted by Lolmorgan View PostFormer England international James Milner has announced his retirement after a 24-year Premier League career. This is what you get with working hard. Good luck James Milner.

He would have been OK with Gore in midfield, a old head & Gore the whipper snapper.
Love to have Gore back at NYS.

An obsolute top notch player, and proper person, but zero experience at being a manager, would be a huge gamble, but he would have somebody with huge experience helping him......so you never know !
Will be interesting to see who we do bring in,will an experienced manager want to work with someone "Upstairs" who is just as experienced ?
So maybe a younger, less experienced bod will fit the bill better,I honestly don`t know how McC`s role will work, just how much influence will he have on team matters ?
Must say,I didn`t think that I would be talking about such a problem with the Millers in the 4th division, this could really be the start of something very special.....or just a failed experiment, when you look around there are very few teams in the bottom 2 divisions who have such a role at their clubs.

Elk,Gore was absolutely brilliant for us,one of my all time favourite loans, could the ex England manager persuade him to sign, now that would be some statement of intention.Originally posted by Ericsladkilnhurst View PostI posted before mate, Milner in has player coach, but this week he decides to retire from playing.

That role should have been introduced when we were in the Championship.Originally posted by Townerslovechild View PostAn obsolute top notch player, and proper person, but zero experience at being a manager, would be a huge gamble, but he would have somebody with huge experience helping him......so you never know !

I hope the McClaren experiment works but I can't help feeling uneasy that he will become disillusioned with the "mess" he is trying to deal with and move on.

Of course he will. Just a stewart PR stunt. I really cannot think why he agreed to the role, except for money. Could be one ego hiring another, seems that way to me. Not as if SM had anything else.Originally posted by mellowmiller View PostThat role should have been introduced when we were in the Championship.

To think he has been here 3 weeks all there has been is pally video interviews, little of substance of plans, in fact none.
That is the key point for me.
No one apparently signing players, fine. But since SM is here, you can bet your last pay packet, agents and players will see him and stick % on signing on and wages. Which will of course not be met.
A fine mess.
