the state of our club is a disgrace and this debate about the loss of a good player, shows what a mess it is. I wish Joe all the best I have enjoyed watching this lad play in two very poor Rotherham United teams during his time here, I can't say that about many players in the last few years, him, Wilks, Gore and perhaps Nombe when he turns up.

WellOriginally posted by Townerslovechild View PostPowell was a decent league one player, nothing more, nothing less,so logic would say a very good 4th division player,we shall see.
Didn't we offer him a deal ?
Maybe Salford (if true),offered a better deal, didn't they have money at one time ?
Anyway, just another player added to the shopping list for the new manager, he's going to be a busy bee.
they have a billionaire owner.

Very true indeed now Sir David Beckham has hit the Forbes list of Billionaires.Originally posted by Lolmorgan View PostWell

It doesn't stop there though as Salford are owned by a consortium of nine separate parties. They are very very wealthy indeed. Having said that, they've hardly done a Wrexham have they?
Their owners/investors:
Leadership: David Beckham, Gary Neville, US-based businessman Declan Kelly, and Mervyn Davies (Baron Davies of Abersoch) head the club's ownership group and board.AIG: The Fortune 500 company AIG acquired an initial stake and later expanded to become the club's largest shareholder, entering into a landmark strategic partnership.
Other Investors: The consortium also includes shareholders like Dream Sports Group (an India-based sports tech company), Nick Woodhouse, Colin Ryan, Frank Ryan, and Shravin Mittal.
Class of '92: Former Manchester United teammates Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, and Phil Neville transitioned out of their previous majority shareholder roles but remain involved in technical, commercial, and recruitment capacities.

Not if you have got a very good Lawyer it seems.Originally posted by Derbymiller View Postin case people forget we beat these 7-2 this season with a few kids in the team as well, our decline is steep and fast.
As for the rich owners aren't they now constrained more due to the change in rules?

Well written, one additional point to make, if in contract Powell is a player that we would have been able to have demanded a transfer fee, not a large one but maybe something like £200k, his agent will know that and he will have asked for that as a signing on fee. Its not just about wages.Originally posted by UlleyMiller View Post(IF TRUE....)
One of our better players from the last two seasons leaves, and the response on here is about the same as he's had from the stands. We don't back our players well at all. Always plenty of detractors, never a shortage of people complaining, always a comparison to yesteryear (and even if the players match up statistically, the moaning continues), and always easy to find someone who'll blame the board and management for their part in the mess we're in.
Amazingly, not every player at L1 and L2 level will run through walls, consistently deliver pinpoint crosses, be fit for 46 games a season, chase lost causes, smash opposing players into the stands, and counter attack like their life depends on it. Applying the sort of insane benchmarks I've seen around here is the reason nobody will ever be good enough. Even Warne with three promotions gets sh** because with the 4 quid he had to spend in the second tier he failed twice.
If you were a footballer and had options, would you seriously think being at our club would be a healthy decision?
Salford are also in new ownership, AIG have bought out the previous owners and only Beckham and Neville remain as minority shareholders of the fab 5. Along with MK they had the highest wage bill last season

Towell went there. Hopefully not Powell as well.Originally posted by Jocksgloves1 View PostThey offer very good wages. Didn't we lose another player to them a few years ago? We'll have done well if we finish above them.
Also, perhaps he was fed up of being told that he wasn't fit to wear the shirt.

Which just goes to show, money doesn't always get you promoted if not handled correctly.Originally posted by HensonsPRman View PostWell written, one additional point to make, if in contract Powell is a player that we would have been able to have demanded a transfer fee, not a large one but maybe something like £200k, his agent will know that and he will have asked for that as a signing on fee. I can never understand the criticism of Joe Powell. I know I don’t see him as often as you guys, just when you played Wanderers or I have to take my young Millers mad Granddaughter to the NY but every time I saw him I was impressed. His delivery from crosses and set pieces I thought were second to none and I’d have taken him to the reebok any time. Probably not now for the Championship but losing him I think would be a big hole for you to replace without a lot of cash.
