  • Wigan style of play

Having watched the Luton v Wigan game last night a few things were very clear. First they play it out from the back and when pressed gave it away cheaply. Luton didn't press them enough (as we didn't press Cardiff enough for some reason as I'm sure they were scouted?). We have to be at them from minute one and we'll do well in the second phase. Second they play side to side but 90% of the time attack down their right side with an overload. Ali will be dangerous as will their overlapping fullback. They like to go for the deep cross to the back post and almost caught Luton out a few times but they defended really well. Cam cannot stay on his line...he'll have to get something on these deep crosses otherwise it'll go wrong.

With this in mind it's our left mid of the three (Powell) who needs to help out James to stop the crosses coming in in the first place so Dan Gore or Liam Kelly will have to be mobile and come short as an outlet otherwise with no out ball it'll keep coming back. I sincerely hope we've watched them as they are predictable but dangerous if we just do zonal type marking with no tempo. I think we'll be up for it and get a win as it can't be as lethargic as everything post first half Vale and the new lad up front will give everyone a lift.

Apparently Agbaire out - not the news we needed - good news for them, though

Defence Saturday more or less picks itself. Central midfield needs to be better.
