I like that. All posters should redirect to a particular thread only.
Remember what the small part of the millmoor ground was called in the early 70s? The bit in front of the gym, aside the tunnel?…..
It was called the kids enclosure, more or less only frequented by them.
We could do the other end of the age spectrum. Hon member could invite Tony, get some club info.

He must be one of our shortest ever playing signings for us, one game. After appearing five times in pre?season friendly matches, it wasn't until on 26 August 2014 that Sadler made his Rotherham United debut in the second round of the League Cup, which saw them lose 1?0 against Swansea City.[84] However, this turned out to be his only appearance in the League Cup, before returning to Crawley in September on loan.Last edited by Lolmorgan; 07-06-2026, 08:04 AM.

Yeah, but don't forget that who ever the new Coach is he will do, and agree, to play a system and style to what SM says so......the coach will do what ask he is asked to do, he won't have any say in anything.Originally posted by Heliosphan78 View PostWas just reading up on Mat Sadler and it looks like his preference is to use wing backs. Under him, Walsall always seemed to set up in a 352. Nothing inherently wrong with that of course if we have the right players.
Anyway we'll see how the story develops next week.

At this stage we do not know the assistant, let us call him that, will be, tactics SM will employ, any players to come, so rightly Avon, M Sadler preferences and previous seems irrelevant. I do not think SM has picked this one. The first two he knew and worked with, end of his contacts.
Could be a long time before he finds someone who, to quote him, aligns with him.
This is one big experiement with our club

Having a DOF for us and generally at this level, is unknown territory, being positive it's forward thinking and bold.
The last 2 seasons we've had the traditional set up of a manager, that didn't end too well,so maybe time for some new thinking.
Isn't this what the fans have been crying out for ?
Just get somebody in this week.

Personally I hope Mat Sadler signs up today.
He knows what is required in League 2 and had Walsall performing well (arguably overachieving given their modest budget) and people who accuse him of bottling things conveniently choose to omit the fact that leading scorer Nathan Lowe was recalled by his parent club in January.
That would have seriously impacted what Sadler was building and once again highlights the risks involved when clubs choose to rely heavily on the loan system.
If he does come here I just hope he gets proper backing from the board which allows him to put together a competitive squad.

I feel it is going to take a very special type of person, to want to come here now under the circumstances. It needs it.
Though must admit I am not sure he would be the right choice. Problem is what choice do we have. Outsiders looking in, it cannot be too appealing.Last edited by Old_time_miller; 08-06-2026, 01:30 PM.
