  • World Cup Chat Thread

Well it's finally started. In order to prevent a myriad of threads popping up, let's keep all the chat about the competition in one place (apart from the England games that will have their own 'praise or grumble' platform on here).

Any thoughts on the opening ceremony or the first 2 games? Anyone know any Millers who have made the trip over to the US to support England?

In fairness to us, we moved the ball much quicker in our last friendly. I thought we were looking quite good, albeit in patches

I bet we couldn't at that altitude.

South Africa were poor as were our last opponents.

Don't know what the 2nd red for South Africa was for. A toddler could do more damage.

On paper France's to lose this time. Fingers crossed.

We have still got that forward, backwards & sideways play, Rashford & Bellinghams got to up their involvement more over a longer period.

Decent opening game although South Africa were very poor .
If it had been a Premier League game there wouldn't have been 3 red cards and I remember thinking there are going to be a lot in the tournament if that game sets the standard.
The 10 second rule for substitutions looks to be a good one and certainly speeded things up.

Totally lifeless and deviod of anything that makes football great.

It was like a game of walking football and a friendly at that

The ground was packed with millionaires, bloated FIFA mafia bosses, and vacuous celebrities

I actually felt sick watching it.

The game has totally lost its soul. All the hype, adverts etc have shoved football into the background

              A big turn off.

Yeah, I agree. But to an extent against packed defences, you have to move back and forth, side to side. But I felt were were doing that quicker for longer periods the other day, and that helped move their defence around and create openings. Whether we can do that in a competitive game against better opposition remains to be seen, but at least you could see clearly what he was trying to do.

I was totally astounded while watching the opening chat from the TV pundits. They moved across to a female presenter? and an American well known chap. He laid straight into the fact how this World Cup has gone completely greedy/crazy with the prices now being charged.

He mentioned the subway from JFK Airport to downtown New York. I know it well having used it several times over the years. The normal price fare was 12 dollars 50 cents but, it was now a whopping outlandish 133 dollars to ride the same route!!

Cup Final tickets have already been priced at an outrageous 33,000 pounds!!!! WTF. I wished no one would buy them and snub the lot but, Millionaires are out there and will purchase them just to say 'I was there'.

What happened to the beautiful game for the working fans to view?

Was getting quite worried about our usual lack of signing players , until whilst watching the Canada Bosnia game it suddenly struck me …with our ex England manager now in tow we’re obviously checking out the lesser names starring in the World Cup …,,,, Eureka there just had to be a reason for our patience …..

Watched first half of Mexico v SA - bored rigid. This World Cup is going to be full of very average games, more reminiscent of League One football.

Third rate teams hacking at each other. It won?t start until the groups are over?.

If theres any one like me who doesn?t want to watch 105 games live (and it isn?t realistic given the ko times) you can get highlights the next morning without the score being given away if you go to bbc.co.uk/nospoilers.

Disappointed the Canada-Bosnia ref didn't clamp down on players kicking the ball away when free-kicks were conceded.
