Statistics May 9-15

Despite a complete lack of popular demand these are back and in spite of what would appear a plethora of big birds it looks like our overall standards have dropped since Howdy and millersrus deserted us.

Easiest word was TRIPE on the 9th with an unusually high average of 4.03 (even higher on MM with 4.29) and hardest word was EAGER on the 15th with a 4.71 average (a whopping 5.4 on MM).

Must try harder (reads our school report).

I get the feeling that the words are getting slightly harder given that WORDL has been going for a fair while and a good proportion of the more straightforward words have now been used.

Also, I would say that the comparisons between us as a group and us in relation to the outside world are also becoming more complex given that some people look at Past Wordl Words websites and others don't. As the number of used words piles up the differences between the two groups will inevitably change.

I have to say, I get less pleasure from doing Wordl now than I did when it was a new game. Finding unused words to enter is time consuming and ultimately a rather dull pursuit. I may give it a rest.

I tend to agree CT about the pleasure aspect although I still do get pleasure in solving it every day but often have to remind myself that doing so in 6 is an achievement and not to be too disappointed when I don't get a 2 or a 3.

Like you mention, it will gradually get harder, especially if you don't use the past Wordles lists. I think my average is creeping up slowly and is now at 3.86 over 1219 attempts.

By my calculation it will be Wordle's 4 year anniversary on June 19th (this thread started about 8 months after).

I'll probably keep going as it's just something to do each day, like breathing

Poss just enter any words without past reference? Not convinced it makes huge amount of difference anyway. Especially on 2nd guess. Better than stopping?

Yes, I was also thinking along those lines, Raging, as an alternative to stopping altogether. The second guess is often the most tedious so on occasion - when the likelihood of getting the right answer at that point is low - it may just be moretraightforward to guess blind.

Thanks CAM . So something like 1450 words have been used already. From what I can read Wordl chooses the word each day from a list of 2319 suitable words so the available stock is dwindling. Of course there are many more 5 letter words in existence than the 2319 reservoir they use but if they choose to expand the reservoir, the challenge of guessing correctly will increase.

I?ll probably stay with it a bit longer and start making the second guess blind as Raging Pup suggests elsewhere. It is a habit like breathing as you say but I find I enjoy the other NYT puzzles more (Spelling Bee, Connections and the Crossword) plus things like the Daily Waffle.

I agree with the comments about the reduced pleasure in the game lately. It feels like a bit of a chore nowadays. I'm sticking with it though as I still feel the challenge of keeping a run going. I'm also curious as to just how obscure the game will become. There are some very technical and unused words out there.
