    • The new Home Secretary considering changes to the ECHR in an effort to stop the boats according to the Guardian this morning .

We will of course have to wait and see what changes are made and how that then plays out in reality .

What is reality in my opinion is that if the boats keep coming Farage will win the next election .

Progressive voters may well have to face reality , either Labour stop the boats or Farage in number 10 will .

      Take your pick .

      • You may be right, animal, which shows that the country has taken leave of it's collective senses.

Unsustainable levels of sovereign debt, a growing demographic crisis, the leading edge of the coming climate change storm and yet the bulk of the bandwidth of national discourse is taken up with the 4% or so of the total immigration into this country that arrives on small boats.

        Unbelievable.

        • Over a thousand illegal migrants came over yesterday.Only the weather stops them coming. The overall numbers are getting worse and the govt. keeps coming out with these failed gimmicks, making no difference at all.

            Animal,

The new Home Secretary will do the same as the old one. They are part of the government controlled by Starmer and whoever he is taking orders from.

I can?t for one minute think that a governmental team which has the old Home Secretary still in it would change policy so drastically that it would embarrass one of the main members of the team by insinuating that they are doing a u turn sorry another u turn and think that the public are gullible to swallow it.

I would not like to see Farage as the British prime minister but I think the public are so fed up of labour and the Tory party that that dinghy has sailed.

Unless they do what the Germans have done and mysteriously managed to five how many potential politicians dead just before an election.?

I don't disagree with the crux of your post Kerr but none the less if a significant number of the electorate deem this is a high priority issue and the current government's ability to remain in power is at huge risk then it is what it is .

However that 4% as you point out is still not sustainable as the years become decades and so forth , this can't go on indefinitely .

The political wind is with Farage and Labour haven't the talent or the communication skills to be able to set the agenda , it's Farage who is setting the agenda and Labour are simply reacting to that .

The electorate have been promised a reduction in immigration for 20 years by both Labour and the Tories and that's not happened so you could argue that they themselves created Farage , there were no Farages in the 80's or 90's or at least there wasn't anyone capable of achieving more than a few hundred votes at elections .

The progressives haven't exactly covered themselves in glory either by shutting down the immigration debate and all kinds of unsavoury allegations made against people who have put forward concerns about the amount of immigration and the speed of it these last 20 years .

Scandals such as the Grooming Gangs which were covered up by the political class and by people in local government or those underneath can be added to the discourse .

Terrorist attacks carried out by people this country has given a home to is in there along with Southport and other despicable acts such as the murder of Tory MP David Amess .

The ability of Human Rights lawyers to find creative ways in order to make success asylum claims is also frowned upon by a good number of the electorate .

Add all those points together and it amounts up to much more than simply 4% .

I don't think you can underestimate where power is God the ability of government's to throw anyone under the bus in order to retain that power .

It would appear to me that when you have a significant number of people who are politically ambitious and all about themselves and the financial trappings that comes with it then people such as Angela Raynor are just simply fodder .

I can almost guarantee that if Raynor's high end political career is over her the relationships she once had will greatly dilute .

I didn't see too many of the ministers who served under Corbyn wanting to know him when he stepped away including the present PM .

                  I agree,

                  It is this simple.
Politician uses the press to lift his profile by giving the press stories.
Politician gets a promotion and uses the press to cement their place in the limelight.
Young politician uses the press to promote their profile.
Young politician works along side existing politician but spills the beans on colleague.
Young politician takes the place of the seasoned politician whilst at the same time a young politician is using the press to lift their profile!

                  Wash and rince!

Who should you trust the least? The press or the politicians ?

Local MP Stephanie Peac@ck paid a visit to my place of employment before the election last year .

You'd imagine she would have wanted to talk to us , ask about our concerns and what we'd like to see done .

Other than a few pleasantries with the management she simply wanted a few photos whilst sat on a forklift wearing a hi-viz .

So you think it?s a good idea to vote for a party who has been in charge while all of your above problems have been accumulating?

                      Is that not unbelievable?

                        • Petty point making though isn't it? They are in NATO but why would USA and Canada subscribe to the ECHR?

Fair point Cam my reason for posting the link was that as a government they are more interested what everyone else is doing. We can?t make our own decisions if they could overturn Brexit they would. All part of a wider plan

A new Banksy artwork that critiqued the misuse of judicial power was removed from London's Royal Courts of Justice.
