  • The point is though we are two and a half weeks from kick off and all we are getting is speculation.
RU66 does have a point & it is unhelpful to criticise others have opinions.
Like him I am not interested in rumours. There even seem to be rumours saying we have already signed the three trialists and others and for some reason the club is holding back for whatever reason. I have even read a post on another site saying we cannot compete with bigger teams like Stockport County. No disrespect to them but in all my ears following the Millers I can probably count on one hand the number of seasons they have played at a higher level than us.
Is this a sign of how far we have fallen. All the great work comes to nought & I definitely think that this club should not be scrambling in the lower echelons of League 1.
If this really is the default position then we definitely need new investment pronto.

Nardendee, it's not about criticising anyones opinion but, RU66 does draw a lot of attention to his posts at times and that's not just one person singling him out. Part of me feels he likes the attention he attracts, hence why he posts like he does. Each to their own as they say.

As for the rumours we've already signed the three trialists I've not seen heard/that. The speculation on that, was via what Hamshaw said in last week's Tizer. https://www.rotherhamadvertiser.co.u...gnings-5216923

HensonsPRMan also said that I stated that both Yearwood and Benson will be announced as having signed contracts that were agreed before they went to Portugal, for extended fitness tests, early next week. This is not correct as surely no contracts can be considered until a player fully proves his fitness?

What I actually said was, ''I have to deduce that 2 of the initial 3 may well be Josh Benson and possibly Dru Yearwood as both have been on trial and obviously fit into our budget otherwise they wouldn't be trialling with us. The third may well be the goalkeeper, Liam Hall who is one of three players bidding to earn contracts during the League One Millers' week-long pre-season stay in Portugal''

You would like to think that both Benson/Yearwood will have proved their worth and fitness enough to have now impressed Hamshaw enough for them both to sign. Still have my doubts over Benson in that another 11th hour club will nip in to steal him and we may have been used to springboard/highlight he's now match fit and readily available.

Brin I don't seek attention just say it how I see it. Trialists Benson didn't feature last night Yarwood did what's that tell you? Can't see us offering contracts to both if to either at all.

That tells me that a Trialist can only play 2 games. Benson has already played 2 against Parkgate and Bromley so wasn?t allowed to play.

Benson did play last night. Came on as a sub for last 20 mins. Can?t find anything about a cap on number of games, just a cap on number of weeks a player can remain on trial. Looks like 3, but maybe someone on here knows the FA policy?

No mention of Benson playing any part of last night's game on the official site match report. Same with subs being brought on in the 2nd half & who they replaced.

He came on in the 61st minute for Reece James according to the Advertiser report.

RU66, do your homework pal. Here's the full list of who played last night. 21 players in total. Benson came on for James on 61 minutes so played a good half an hour.

Rotherham (3-2-4-1): Ted Cann; Joe Rafferty (Ben Scothern 63), Lenny Agbaire (Kane Richardson H-T, Cairo Hazell 86), Zak Jules (Tom Renshaw 84); Dru Yearwood (Shaun McWilliams H-T), Liam Kelly (Lewis Clarke 63); Jack Holmes (Micah Lewens 63), Kian Spence (Jordan Hugill H-T), Joe Powell, Reece James (Josh Benson 61); Sam Nombe (Reece Wilson 67).

Brin just to clear something up on Benson and Yearwood, you dont take players on trial unless you know the terms of the contract they are looking for, it would be a waste of everyone's time. Both went to Portugal to prove their fitness which they have done, the formality of signing the paperwork is now being done. As ever until that is signed there is always a risk.
As an aside Barnsley have lost out on Josh Karoma in a similar way to us losing Wiredu, medical done all preliminaries done just paperwork left to sign and they have been gazumped.
