Unless we are looking at non-league prospects, I expect most of the players we approach are considering offers elsewhere, and unfortunately, elsewhere will more than likely be a better choice than Rotherham, both in social and footballing terms.

Unfortunately Bill, it's not as simple as just going out and getting someone in. If you're looking to get a player in earlier, you're normally offering an amount that the club/player don't think they're getting from other clubs if they wait (we wouldn't be doing that given our budget restrictions). There's a domino effect in place too, with clubs having to wait on other clubs to complete their business before moving players in, and on. The Carabao Cup will have a big say in this during this window with the PL clubs holding onto their younger talent for Round 2 so I expect a lot of clubs to do business in the final days of the window, certainly not just a Rotherham United problem, it's something that happens throughout the pyramid.
