  • Will Jordan Hugill ever score for us again?

    I can't see it happening.

From the penalty spot there's a 40/60 chance of Hugill scoring a goal. But hey, why take that chance? Other players are available with a 50/50 chance of scoring from said spot.
Thing is, what's Hugill like in training? Does he ever find the back of the net? What's that? Only when the keeper's gone to have a chat with the coaching staff.

The question should be. Should he ever play for us again. I can answer that

I'm not fully convinced that it's an ability thing as he showed he could do it at Harrogate and did look a decent player, but his effort levels just aren't there and he doesn't look interested.

Shoot me down but I'd have much rather kept JCH and shipped Hugill out. Atleast he got a few goals.

I saw a positive change in his approach to the game when MH arrived. Based on this, I predicted he'd score 15 goals this season.

I was wrong. He needs a fresh start elsewhere.

I don't agree that he makes no effort.

He doesn't get goals, that's the problem. He's never been a particularly prolific goalscorer in his entire career and right now it's a confidence thing with him. He's getting chances but not taking them. He had a header last night in the first half which he should have done better with. He could have equalised near the end v Donny.

Regardless, I think Hamshaw will start him on Saturday so let's hope he gets amongst the goals because right now there isn't a better option.

I agree on JCH, a much better proposition. Hughill is no threat

Watching Hugill warm up against PV and Wigan he looked streets ahead of the other forwards in shooting/scoring ability. In the games he looks like he has the football equivalent of the 'yips'. It's been going on so long now I'm afraid that even a lucky one in off his arse isn't going to be a cure. Similar psychological problems have effectively ended careers in golf, darts and snooker.

Ian baker finch comes to mind.

Hughill worked hard last night but again missed what should have been a standard headed goal in first half.

I think the bottom line he isn't very good.
We've had some bang average strikers over the years, and he isn't even average.
The only reason he's still here is we can't afford to pay him off,and nobody will have him on his current wages.
An example of us paying too much in wages in the first place, something that all clubs do,thankfully we don't do it too often.

Spot on TLC. Jordan should not be starting as he offers so little and probably inhibits us actually as he slows everything down. With him and Kelly in the same team we have little chance of gaining momentum. Even coming off the bench shackles any charge of the light brigade attempts at the end. He's had a good career and will be pretty secure financially but unfortunately he's probably not even league 2 level anymore as he hasn't got whatever he had that got him the big moves anymore. Father time has caught up.

I agree, I think Hamshaw had initially thought 'If he's here and we're paying for him we may as well try and get some use of him' and he's given him a fair chance to prove himself again rather than just bombing him out of the squad. He's not taken that chance at all and if the other strikers were fit I don't think he'd even be on the bench. The ONLY improvement from him this season is that he's not falling over as much, which ironically makes his performances even more anonymous.
