He’s played intermittently in the past 4 or 5 years according to Wiki. Are we really sure he is all that? Luton released him and don’t seem to be pulling up trees so I would be cautious as to this being the second coming.

We can't possibly judge on the basis of one outstanding performance against a relatively poor team.
However, he was constantly organising the back line and that's something that none of the other defenders in the squad have been capable of doing this season.
I think it's fair to say that, if he stays fit, he will probably be a regular in the team and most supporters would welcome that.

Due to persistent injuries and hope that he could regain match fitness with another club before bringing him back in the unlikely event he actually didn't get injured and then gets match fit?

I wouldn't read too much into the fact we've borrowed a player from a club in the same league.

Luton have got some good players. The two lads who played at CB for them last Saturday both have Premier League experience.

He's down the pecking order simply because he is. His fitness issues won't have helped matters.
