  • MillersMad Match Thread...Millers V Oldham

Tonight we welcome Oldham Athletic to the New York Stadium for our second game in the EFL Trophy group stage.

Remember if the game finishes all square tonight, we go to penalties. In the event of that happening, both teams would get one point, with the winner of the shoot-out receiving an additional point.

    The Boss
Micky Mellon, appointed Oldham manager on 13/10/2023, led the Latics to promotion via the play-offs last season.

    They played for both clubs
Paul Warne, Jonson Clarke-Harris, Liam Kelly, Guy Branston and Paul Green. Ben Pringle also had a brief loan spell with Oldham.

    Recent Form
Currently sitting just below mid-table in L2, Oldham were beaten 3-1 away at Notts County on Saturday. That was their first defeat away from home in the league this season.

    Latest Odds
    Millers Even
    Draw 23/10
    Oldham 21/10

    Recent Meetings
    L1 Oldham 1 v 1 Rotherham (13/01/2018)
    (Ryan Wiliams)

    L1 Rotherham 5 v 1 Oldham (23/09/2017)
(Ihiekwe, Keiffer Moore x 2, Forde, Jerry Yates)

    Summary
Last time out in this competition Oldham made 10 changes from their previous league game and were beaten 1-5 by Manchester City Academy. It tends to be the norm in this competition so I would imagine they'll be making changes again and giving some of their fringe a further chance.

As for the Millers, I understand Ted Cann is suffering from concussion so won't feature tonight. That's a shame given we've only seen him once all season. But putting that aside, hopefully we'll see the likes of Hamish Douglas or maybe one or two of the other youngsters. I also think Dru Yearwood could do with getting some minutes on the pitch this evening.

Back to the game itself, a win tonight would give us an excellent chance of progression to the knock-out stages so let's hope for a positive result.

    Enjoy the game. UTM.

Seeing how I missed out on the Bradford game I'm looking forward to attending this one. 7pm kick off so not home too late is a plus.

As Heliospan says, the likes of Yearwood and Douglas should be given a run. Not forgetting that McGickin and Ayres are eligible to play in this for us even though they are on loan. Will they be recalled, who knows?

Shame Cann isn't allowed to play but he must have taken some knock in training to be missing out. There won't be a big crowd probably a 1000 or so but it's a Tuesday night home game so what's not to miss. UTM!

NB. Slight probability that now the early dark nights are here, Brin's sausage rolls may start making an appearance. Just hope 'Seagull' John ain't hanging about, he'll scoff the lot!

Forgot to add the likes of Jules, Kelly, J.Holmes, Spence and Hugill. Maybe Hamshaw will save those most fit that make up his best 11 and these players get a run out tonight?

Not been to a Vertu cup game or whatever it was called before since Lamy played in them was spoiled! Can remember Vaulks playing in one after Warney who inexplicably dropped him for Potter in league 1 games.

Feel like I'm replying to an AI but here goes.....

          Why was it spoiled?

Are you telling me you missed out on our glorious Wembley Final win under Warney even though it was called the Papa Johns Trophy back then?

But look even closer from your TV set. Josh Ayres has been recalled and makes the subs bench meanwhile your boy McGuckin is left out in the cold, what?s that tell you?

The only thing Lamy had was an inability to play football, a bit like McGuckin.

How skint are we, second game without a reserve keeper. I assume Cann is injured if so why haven’t we brought in a keeper? Some decisions at this club are getting ridiculous
Good point where is Kelly, is he injured as well?

Good chance for Etete. Poor header

Jeez. How slow were we to react to that? Ball hung in hair and keeper and defence just staring at it whilst their player has a cuppa then nods in. Awful, awful
