I remember that game at Hillsborough so well. We were all on the open Kop at Hillsborough and I remember us singing Singin' In The Rain. We were all soaked and the colour from my jacket soaked through to my shirt ruining both. I think Wednesday were top of Division One at the time and a newspaper report at the time said that Wednesday's only error was to try to match their push and run style of football with Rotherham'sOriginally posted by Ericsladkilnhurst View PostEx-Millers player Frank Casper.
20 year old goalkeeper Charlie Casper has gone on a season-long-loan to Grimsby Town,
the Burnley FC player is the grandson of Frank Casper.
Frank Caspers son Chris Casper is currently academy manager at Burnley.
Frank Casper a Millers legend when he scored the winning goal against Sheffield Wednesday
in the league cup at Hillssborough in 1966, a night when the heavens opened, but us rain
drenched Millers supporters went home happy.
Frank Casper was sold to Burnley for a reported 30,000 pounds in 1967, where he scored on
his debut, & scored 5 goals in his first 5 games, he was leading goalscorer for his first 2
seasons at Burnley.
When he retired he became youth team coach, later caretaker manager in 1983, then becoming
manager 1989-91.
Chris Casper - defender
Played for Manchester United, AFC Bournemouth, Swindon Town & Reading.
He retired fromfootball aged 24 after suffering a double leg fracture, to which he received
compensation after the player who made the tackle on him accepted liability.
He is currently academy manager at Burnley FC.
So the Casper family have all had links with Burnley FC.
But for Frank Casper I think a much more momentous goal was a couple of years before that. We were away to Burnley in the F A Cup. At the time they were a top Division One club and we were a Division Two team. In those days if you didn't go to the away game you'd watch the reserves and every 15 minutes they'd put up an update on the score. I was watching from the Railway end and Burnley were winning 1-0 and then a small boy ran across the front of the terraces shouting "Casper's scored, Casper's scored" and I think it was that goal that attracted Burnley to him and he and his family have had such a long association with them after that.
Incidentally, I think the replay was at a near full house at Millmoor. We were winning 2-1 with two goals from Barry Lyons when Colin Clish broke his leg. With no substitutes playing a top First Division One club with only 10 men was too much even for the Mighty Millers and we lost 3-2.

Att, 23,813. For the Rotherham Vs Burnley FA Cup game, people all sat round the pitch at Millmoor.Originally posted by Muchthemillersson View PostI remember that game at Hillsborough so well. Colin Clish one of heroes, I think we would have won the game up to Clish breaking his leg.
Colin Clish when he retired from football, joined the railway police.
If I did not go away to watch the first team, I also went to watch the reserve team in the North Regional League.
Sometimes I went to watch the Blades if reserve game was not on.
