  • Swansea v Hull

    Swansea v Hull, Sat 13 Sept, 15:00
Here we go, the annoying two week International break is almost over and it will be back to league action in just a few days time.
The Tigers of Hull are the visitors and we have a bunch of new players to bed in, exciting times.
Many of them are on international duty with their respective countries and already we have one that has come back with an injury. Marko Stamenic has an adductor injury, ‘slight’ according to the New Zealand camp. No feedback from Swansea yet but it looks as if he is going to miss some games.
Regarding Hull, they have our ex-player leading the line, Ollie McBurnie, signed on a free transfer.
Hull are under a purchase transfer embargo and cannot buy players for two transfer windows due to EFL restrictions imposed on them after they made late payments to other clubs within a 12-month period from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025.
Under new manager Sergei Jakirovic they have had a mediocre start to the season and are 17th in the table on 4 points, conceding 7 goals in their last 2 games.

    Bristol City 4 - Hull 2
    Hull 0 - Blackburn 3
    Hull 3 - Oxford 2
    Coventry 0 - Hull 0
Swans fans will be wondering how the team will line up on Saturday with the influx of 13 new players. Sheehan has had little time to work with them in training and it will take time for them all to settle in.
We now have quality cover for every position on the field, something that hass been lacking previously.
    I am going for a 2-1 win.

Don’t know what is going on here. Swans Director of Football, Richard Montague, leaving after only seven months.

Richard Montague left a similar role at League Two club Notts County to take up a key position at Swansea in February.

Looks as if he was pushed:

“As part of an internal review of our football operations, the club has decided to move forward with a different approach ahead of the January transfer window.”

Starting line-up for Hull will probably be:
Vigouroux, Key, Cabango, Burgess, Tymon, Franco, Yalcouye, Ronald, Galbraith, Inoussa, Vipotnik.
Late signings Adam Idah, Manuel Benson and Ishe Samuels-Smith should play some part and be eased in at some point in the game.
Stamenic has made a big impression, unfortunately he’s injured and will be missed. Fulton also injured, Galbraith or Yalcouye to slot into the defensive midfield slot?

For Hull, their new signings Amir Hadziahmetovic and Dario Gyabi should feature.
Matt Crooks, Semi Ajayi, Harry Vaughan and Liam Miller are out.

Regarding Richard Montague, every thing seemed to be hunky dory at the recent Fans Forum and with the successful transfer window but who knows what went on behind the scenes with suspected personality clashes

With Stamenic out and Ollie gone on loan, the three last minute signings need to be introduced to the subs bench.
I am thinking he’ll field the same team as the last game with Galbraith dropping back to defensive midfield and Yalcouye playing behind Vipotnik.

We also have the League Cup match at home to Forest coming up next Wednesday I hope the new players gell and that we will field a strong team. We have the squad depth to do it now.

Wind and heavy showers forecast, hopefully not affecting the match.
As you say plenty of cover in the squad now, depending how quickly the new players can get up to speed.
Looking forward to the match after three weeks without a home game.

                          Swansea 2 (Vipotnik 40’, Ronald 57’) - Hull 2 (McBurnie 45’, Egan 97’)
Three ex-Swans in the Hull line-up, Ollie McBurnie, Kyle Joseph and Kasey Palmer.
Poor defending for both Hull’s goals coming at the end of each half, this after Swans taking the lead twice.
We were back to our old ways as we panicked every time the ball was crossed into our box. Hull were no great shakes until their subs turned the game and they could have had more goals but for Vigouroux.
The inevitable goal by an ex-Swan was scored by McBurnie. Some puzzling substitutions, Cullen for Yalcouye, Eom for Inoussa. Vipotnik scored again but was subbed off for Idah who made an unimpressive debut.
Its back to the training ground to sort it out I’m afraid.
