  • Swansea v Nottingham Forest

Swansea v Nottingham Forest, EFL Cup Third Round, Wednesday 17 September, 20:00

Nothing to lose with this one. Sheehan will have one eye on the Birmingham match just a few days later and will fill the bench with first choice players rather than risk them and give the squad players a chance. Samuels-Smith and Benson will probably make their debuts, Fisher in goal and Casey in central defence.
Forest have a new manager in Postecogleu and he will want a first win under his belt since taking over from Santo, but he will also not want to risk too many of his first team. I hope we have a good crowd to cheer us on.

So our favourite (not) referee takes charge of the Forest tie. Well known amongst Swansea fans, also Newport and Cardiff fans for his anti-Welsh bias.
      Robert Madeley, oh no!
We now look forward with trepidation to this match with that man in charge.

            Swansea 3 (Burgess 68’, 97’, Vipotnik 93’) - N Forest 2 (Jesus 15’, 45’)

Just as Hull snatched a draw with a last second goal on Saturday, Swans did the same to Forest for a shock win tonight.
A brace from hero and captain for the night Burgess sent the Swans fans wild. What a turnaround from being 0-2 down at half-time.

What a game that was. It looked as if we’d blown it when Forest went two up but a brilliant comeback second half.
Fisher, free from the shackles of Martinball, looks a new man.
Burgess scored two goals both crackers, header and a volley, he’s been threatening to do this all season. Forest cry they’ve made ten changes but we made six and Forest sent the cavalry on second-half, Ndoye and Gibbs-White.
Shame there was a poor attendance, just 11,354, to watch one of the best matches to be seen at the .com since our Premier League days.

Great comeback boys. If we could tighten our defence we could do something this season.
The squad is stronger with our new signings, just a matter of game time to gel.
I hope we get a top club in the next round.

Good draw for us, a home tie against the eight times winners.
Ties to be played week commencing 27 October.
Three Welsh clubs in the last 16, unluckily two are drawn against each other.
