We have underinvested in centre midfield for years. Numerous years.

Outside of Price, who seems to be more of an attacking player, our last centre midfield purchase over £1m was Sawyers in 2019.

Coventry bought Grimes for a few million in January and he has changed their midfield. Torp came just before that and he is one of the best in the league.

We have underinvested in midfield and signed freebies or loans and it shows. We have an inability to win the midfield and control games.

We badly need a good window and the heartbeat of the side needs addressing quickly.

I have said this for years and there?s been no creative brilliance in our midfield since Pereira.

Why has this not been identified by the Nestor Model or better still Ryan Mason or even Abella with his note pad flapping?. Then again there?s been no clinical striker since Dwight Gayle!

To be fair to Patel and Nestor, we were on free fall when they came and they have steadied the ship.

I hope they fix this in the next couple of windows. Its the reason why we were relegated under Pulis/Pardew as well, loaning Krychowiak and buying Barry instead of investing in legs.

Baffles me why Abella gets so much hate. Seems like a great passionate part of the team. Its up to the manager to ensure they are only advising him and there isnt anything to suggest thats not happening.
