  • 57th minute tribute at wba v Sheff Wed

Cash for defibrillators is raised after Mark Townsend had a cardiac arrest at Hillsborough.

Tributes are expected at a West Bromwich Albion match against Sheffield Wednesday, in memory of a fan who died after last year's treverse fixture.

Baggies fan Mark Townsend, 57, suffered a heart attack at Hillsborough in September 2024. A coroner concluded he died of natural causes but the response to get him medical aid could have been quicker.

A 57th minute applause is planned at The Hawthorns on Saturday, where a Sheffield Wednesday supporter will be presented with a ?2,000 cheque for a defibrillator campaign.

A great tribute. I was six or seven rows behind this supporter and still it?s sad even now to reflect had the response been quicker the ending result could have been different.

My daughter messaged me earlier saying of her own free will she?s paid ?90 to do a first aid course which she?s doing today with CPR and defib training. I told her well done as that?s excellent and selfless,

Good move from Tango, great initiative to have come out of the tragedy of his daughter's early passing. I've met him a couple of times and have a fair few mates who know him really well. To say he was utterly and understandably devastated would be a huge understatement. Rest in Peace Lauren Walker and Mark Townsend.

        +1

Always good to see something good and tangible come out of such a dreadful event.
