  • Carlos Corberon

The Valencia supporters are starting to give Carlos grief according to Spanish reports due to being in the relegation spots. Valencia are a big club so will be interesting how this plays out.

Two home games coming up against Real Betis and Levante. Lose to Betis then Levante who are not great would be a must win or it could be curtains.

He did very well to get them organised and keep them up last season. Their board really didn't do him any favours in the transfer market during the summer by selling some of the better players and not adequately replacing them. Sounds familiar. If Valencia supporters have an issue with their current position they'd be better served focussing their attentions on the board before Corberan.

Corberan is a top manager. What he did for us and Huddersfield was incredible.

In terms of the criticisms around his football, I would like to see what he could do with a little money. It feels like his whole career has been thriving on scraps. I think I am right in saying we only made one paid signing during his reign, which was Styles at £600k.

I dont think its right to criticise his football when hes working with no money and crap squads.

Trouble is Dan as you know - it?s always the manager that gets it regardless of any circumstances and when it gets toxic the chairman gives him the sack.

Good managers will make demands on replacements or look to go elsewhere if the carpet gets pulled from under their feet, I still think had Big Sam come in earlier he may have kept us up. It was shortsighted of the Board not offering him the incentive to bring us back up with a juicy promotion bonus because I was told he wanted to stay. Why would he have stayed if he thought in his own mind the squad is not good enough to go straight back up which will impact on any promotion bonus!

There are plenty of managers around doing a great job on bare bones or working with what they have. Mason would have been better off cutting his teeth on a mangers role in a lower division and working his way up. There could be a vacancy soon at Port Vale 😭

Why do posters always seem to forget this fact. I still think he did wonders with us for the time he was here. No one comes hear him from that perspective.
I actually do not think he ever had too much to spend on squads.
I hope it works out for him back home.

Allardyce was offered terms to stay on permanently though Al, terms which he himself described as being very generous. His reservations surrounded transfer kitty and the resources for a huge rebuild which he told the club we needed.

It was shortsighted of the board to think they could get away with a promotion push on the cheap with Sam Allardyce in charge. He wanted to drain the swamp and wasn't having any bulls hit from them which is why he rejected the chance to stay.

That?s my point Dan. He wanted the resources to get us back up but the Board were shortsighted then afterwards we had Grant, Diagana, Zohore and Dike who were all s hite costing us around 50 million

Afterwards? Are you sure about that one Al? Of the players you've just listed only Dike arrived after Allardyce. Grant, Diangana and Zohore all arrived under Bilic who was very definitely at the club before Sam Allardyce came in.

A top manager for me is one who gets fans off their seats and manages with the resources they have, There are a number of teams in the championship who have spent less than us and playing good football. Sevilla in La Liga spend peanuts but always do well and they are comfortable in the league! The Bradford manager is doing a great job and far better than our Darren who will be back at the job centre soon. Well done him.

Corberon did a great job in his first year but I believe he couldn?t take us any further and the football became boring.

That?s my view and many shared that but if anyone thinks differently then I respect their view too. Many would argue Pulis was unfairly slated as he got us in the top half of the division before the second year the football became full like it was under Corberon. Do consider though with Pulis it was the Premier League and not the Championship which is huge in quality difference. So parking the bus was expected in the top league and not in an inferior league like the Championship!

The point was 50 million was spent on s hite but they wouldn?t give Big Sam the money to rebuild the squad.

Allardyce is a manager famed for taking on small budgets, being solid defensively and unglamorous football. Sound familiar? Why would you want him over Corberan. (Both are good managers in my mind BTW)

Well no, they'd already spent it 😭.

After reading all the comments contained in this thread I feel the vast majority think on the same lines and that is we need to be more expansive and attack minded in our approach. The tippy tappy game is not the way forward.

That?s my point! 50 million wasted and then wouldn?t give him the money to have brought us back up at the time!
