  • Coventry and Blues

Whilst the three points are welcome from yesterday, I am not convinced any corner is turned.

For me it?s at least three points from both these two matches and four points for the team to make any statement,

Less than three points for me then no corner has been turned. Let?s hope at Coventry with tickets at 45 pounds each we have one attempt on goal for our supporters.

    Any thoughts on these matches?

Both teams have better squads than us. So 3 points out of 6 would be a good result.

Coventry have but question whether Blues have. I would say both their managers set up on the front foot without tippy tappy sideways football. Another good win n for Hull yesterday who have a philosophy from a manager of attacking football - didn?t see them spending more than us!

When the most recent transfer window closed, pretty much to every poster we had had a decent window. Compared to all the most recent windows, we all seemed happy with the business done.
A few weeks on, and it all looks so different.....strange one indeed.

Don't think that Blues have Matt. They stormed League One, winning games even when playing poorly but have taken their time to settle into the Championship. My Dad and two brothers are Blues fans and all say that up until the last two games (when they also found their shooting boots) they have not been particularly good.

Blues have money and no PSR issues like ourselves but although they certainly have a few decent players, I really don't think that their current squad is any better than ours. What they have found (as is part of Coventry's success) is a way of playing that works and this is what we have so far struggled to find. I'm sure that Al and others are right when they talk about the need to play on the front foot more though.

Coventry have a better squad than either of us but credit too to Lampard for their success. Whether Blues can sustain their recent form is debatable, especially against better teams (they lost to Boro yesterday). Although it will be a tough game, I still believe we can still get something from it when we play them-but it will mean playing with desire and intensity throughout and who Mason selects up front will be key.

For me, they are a decent side and some of their big hitters like Furuhashi havent hit it yet. I think we can get something from it. We can take points from any team but I think it is unlikely against Cov and will be challenging against brum.

Cov are good but not unbeatable. I would rather go there with the intent to win and attack them as opposed to sitting back and getting overrun. Supporters even in defeat will rarely criticise their team if they give it a good go!

Sitting back with negative tactics and zero attempts at goal will always rightly get boos.

I still say our players are good enough to get around the play offs like Hull but it?s Mason who is the root cause of the dire football.

We are one of the worst attacking sides in the league, Cov are the best. Attack them at the Ricoh, give them space and they put 4 or more past us. Only a plonker would set us up to go toe to toe with them.

I think we should play how we did against Charlton. We had chances and limited them to long shots.

Yeah right - with our best player Johnston on the bench! The main reason we are poor in attack is the lack of service to the revolving door for Maja, Heggebo or Dike. Charlton were poor and had injuries. So for me Johnston needs to start with Maja. I certainly would not play Grant and question whether Price should start as he doesn?t do enough, Rather have Collyer back too!

Hope Wallace is not fit as could see Mason starting him FFS,

Maja doesn’t look right for me Al buddy. Not unlike Price who went through a run of poor performances. (To be fair, Price has improved and deserves a start if fully fit)
I’d prefer Heggo over Maja - and maybe Dike over Maja ! It’s difficult to assess Dike given his lack of pitch time though.
Again with Wallace, Grant and Junior, little to differentiate. Wallace if fit to start, but EARLY substitution with either of the other two when he tires.
Another revolving door with Diakite, Mulumby, Mowatt and Collyer. Perm any selection! I’d prefer Styles in place of Mowatt at present.
I’ve not had the opportunity to see Bostock, but accept your recommendation. A brave selection in the next 2 games.
It’s quite a mediocre bunch at present, worthy of a mid table finish unless Ryan can get them to up their game.

Agreed on Maja. He either isnt fit, is frightened of injury or isnt bothered. Either way he isnt suitable for selection.

Johnston has to start, no doubt.

Junior looks like a left wing back for me. He has got something about him but not great in the final third. He is also very left footed. I would play him at right wing back until we sort that position out. Maybe with Williams. Gilchrist looks ok but isnt a wing back.

Price is a bit hit and miss but such an impact player. He has got to play.

Personally I'd try a more attacking formation with 3 at the back against Blues so Griffiths, Beilik, Phillips, Taylor then Molumby, Mowatt, Styles in midfield, Junior and Johnston on the wings and Price behind Heggebo with the likelihood of Collyer replacing Junior and Dike on for Price at some stage. Maja has been to off the pace lately so time to see what Dike can do as he hasn't really had any real opportunity to prove himself since returning from injury.

For the Coventry game we will need to revert to 4 across the back and lose Styles to bring Mepham back.

Given our midfield issues, I'm still wondering whether we will see Bany after the international break given that much was made of him being the type of player we were after to fit Nestor's model. Having only lately returned from injury, he obviously won't play 90 but he's been warming the bench for a few games now.

Love the formation Omeg but I think you have got one too many in there. I have a feeling Mason couldnt even get a tune out of 12 players 😆
