Thoughts on Saturday and Mason

Ok so here are my honest thoughts on yesterday's game .

Let me start off by saying I am well happy with a win . At 2-0 down I honestly didn't think we would even claw back a draw not alone a win .

Of course heggebo and Johnstone was fantastic as I said yesterday so they deserve their flowers . And to be fair to mason his subs looked good and we seemingly changed formation for once aswell . Which again worked so credit for that also .

Now because of this win has my opinion and or stance changed on mason ? . In all honesty no and here is why. That first half was one of the worst performances I've ever seen Albion play at home.

For mason to make 4 subs at half time indicates to me that he got the team line up horribly wrong in the first place . The first thing I said to my old man what was SIJ doing starting Infront of grant . The call to start Gilchrist over Campbell looked a poor one ( Campbell looked great when he came on by the way )

Despite the win he just proved again that he got it so horribly wrong . And those wrong decisions giving us a 2 goal deficit 9/10 result in a loss .

Personally if there wasn't loud boos at half time and " your getting sacked in the morning " chant I truly don't believe he makes those subs . To me they seemed like panic subs . ( By the way I am fully aware that they all worked ) But to me personally if there wasn't massive pressure put on by the fans he doesn't make wholesale changes .

I think a massive question mark still looms over his head for me despite the win . If we played every single week like our first half against Coventry and blues and our second half against Swansea I would be able to see his vision. But sadly 3 quality single half performances in let's say the last 8-10 games isn't good for West Bromwich Albion

I get we aren't good enough to be play offs but we certainly are better then the 17th position we started in yesterday before kick off .

Another thing I didn't like was ( and I think I noticed this correct me if I'm wrong)

It seemed to me like moloumby was shushing his own fans when he scored . I could be wrong but that's what it looks like .

I am a massive fan of moloumby . I always flew his flag even when people was saying he was **** when we activated that clause to buy him from Brighton .

But if I am correct in what I thought I saw . Jesus Christ man you got criticized for a reason . Stupid yellow cards leading to a sending off and costing us the game at Coventry. You can't just take all the praise and then have a tantrum when you get critiqued . And rightly critiqued in my view .

But yeah sorry it's a long one that was just my honest thoughts

Well happy with a win of course . It certainly was a rollercoaster of a game . I think all of our lots blood pressure went through the roof yesterday 😂

I’m hoping to see a continuance of the positive style which salvaged the game last match. A return to the disappointing performances evident previously will maintain the pressure on Mason.
Starting XI will say it all. Surely he will demonstrate a new leaf turned over !

It is so obvious that we looked a completely different side after the changes made at half time that not to select a similar, if not the same second half eleven, would be extremely foolish and negligent. If Mason does revert to that first half starting eleven and tactics, yes, he will deserve the sack! If he does not understand the error of the original selection then I can see no future for him at the Hawthorns. Surely he will not be so stupid as to do this. He has to replace Phillips as he will be suspended but for goodness sake give those players who won us three valuable points another go.

One hundred percent agree. One season surly can't be too long for a manager nowadays?

I totally agree. We signed him as a young inexperienced manager so I don?t really understand what is expected of him in his first season in charge. I get that the football hasn?t been great at times and selections a bit confusing but it?s sometimes easy to say he should have done this and should have done that, therefore it?s time for him to go.
What if we get rid of him and someone else takes him on and gets the best of him?
He may turn out to be a complete dud but I really don?t think he?s had a chance to prove anything yet.

Mason is making mistakes every week and it can?t go on. FFS - we are no worse than say Preston or Millwall who have good managers and play good football hence why they are going for the play offs, With our squad we are no different and should be around the play offs as a minimum.

Football is a ruthless business. Would the top person at M and S or John Lewis be given a year if they were consistently making mistakes? Of course not as they would be sacked!

To say there?s no one better out there or no one who could do a better job is plain rubbish. Give Mason until the 1st week in January and if things don?t improve then try and salvage the season and get rid.

Most supporters who go to the matches are getting fed up with him and this can?t go on. The huge amount of empty seats including the Blues match tells you paying supporters are switching off. Patel is a ruthless businessman so for sure he will have a contingency plan!

To keep making the same mistakes is unacceptable. So I am firmly in the camp of keeping Mason. We have changed our manager/coach every few months in the last 12 months and as I said previously, I think we have had 11 managers/coaches in around 10 or so years.

Let?s give the guy a chance. Any realist thought we would be mid table come May, we are on target for that, and we are just four points from the playoffs.

A little patience is all that is needed.

At the end of the day decisions about the manager usually come to a head when the majority of the paying supporters either;
1. Demand he’s sacked and it gets toxic
2. Empty seats keep growing.

That’s the reality of what happens and had we lost to Swansea then yes it would have turned toxic . Let’s see going forward and hope Mason has learnt. Empty seats are growing which tells a story itself in that people are voting with their feet.

Personally - i hope he turns it around but can’t see it. I hope I’m wrong! The best starting line ups and football on the front foot will get more sympathy from paying supporters especially those who travel away at a significant cost!

As long as we are in this division, above half way and have reduced the wage bill considerably and rid ourselves of players who dont make the starting 11 then I will be okay until we can make a fresh start next season.
I'm not up for changing the manager until at least then, so lets all calm down and wait for the books to balance.

Come on Matt - its a debate of differing opinions. I respect all views of those in favor of Mason but have my own views as do lots of others. That said, I go to a lot of away games where even at these games there are those who are patient and those that don’t like Mason. That?s life.

Are you saying many who go to away games and spend a lot of money ( clearly they love West Brom ) dont want Mason to work out as you have put it! That would be a crazy statement as its easier to sit on a sofa saying such stuff spending zilch.

I have seen enough of Mason and personally can not see too much changing. I sincerely hope I’m completely wrong. Should I post my Hull City tickets back to the club because of my views on Mason which mirror other supporters who will be at Hull too when we love the club?

Like everything in life a person/s are judged by the majority and when the majority rightly or wrongly stamp their feet change can be demanded. Many are frustrated and no doubt you have seen the empty seats.

A well reasoned response Matt. I have seen Bostock a couple of times and he was excellent and in the minutes he’s been given looked composed and good with his feet. If Wallace and Junior were decent I get the lack of trying him. But the fact is both are poor. That’s the point.

Personally I would take a rain check on Mason at the end of January. I hope to hope he comes good but can’t see it with the constant tinkering, Just my view of course.

Just an observation regarding your comment about the majority’; the majority didn’t vote for the Labour Party, they had a large majority of votes over the other parties but with a slightly lower percentage of the vote than they had in the previous election.
