How many more U-turns is this Labour government going to make? Another one today regarding the farming industry. I would have more respect for them, even if I did not agree with them, if they stuck to their original decision. It is becoming farcical the number of times they have changed their minds. Basically, it shows that they have not a clue as to what they are doing!

Local elections being cancelled or being delayed by years, and for sure he wants Rayner back who defrauded the tax payer of 40K plus.Originally posted by Leicesterbaggie View PostHow many more U-turns is this Labour government going to make? Starmer continues to be his own worst enemy by consistently not thinking things through properly in the first place before making decisions and then having to reverse course -which makes him look a tool. There was nothing wrong at all in targeting the tax loop-hole in farming used by wealthy individuals and large companies but he failed to listen to and protect small independent farmers and under (quite avoidable ) pressure has now had to make this U-turn. Similarly, IMHO, there was nothing wrong in him getting rid of the winter fuel payment system based purely on age but, again, he did not properly listen to concerns over protecting those pensioners who were financially vulnerable and, under avoidable pressure again, had to do a U-turn. Tbh, I am glad that he recognizes that gets things wrong and changes tack where needed rather than plough on regardless of any objections but why cant he simply listen harder and get things right in the first place? These U-turns make him look both weak and inept.

I have to agree Omeg. It is just a matter of doing your homework, getting it right and delivering. Unfortunately, with all the so called experts he has at hand, the PM simply does not see what he is walking into.Originally posted by Omegstrat6 View PostStarmer continues to be his own worst enemy by consistently not thinking things through properly in the first place before making decisions and then having to reverse course -which makes him look a tool. Like you, I am not against Government making a u-turn if it is seen something is not working or simply was ill thought out in the first place. However, this Government is doing it repeatedly and so it is a concern that they are no reading what the electorate wants. It indicates that the Government does not have the ability to Govern and is weak. We need a very strong Government in these difficult times. A transparent Government, and honest Government, a knowledgeable Government with its finger on the pulse.
That, I am afraid, is asking a lot of the current Government. To be fair, people appear unwilling to want to pay more tax to invest in health, defence, prisons, education, policing etc. There will be losers and there will be losers. Some perhaps need to face facts as we need to pay more as hard as that may be. I would be happy to do so if it makes the country stronger, safer and better for the generations to come.
Not going to happen though is it.Last edited by On Balance; 24-12-2025, 08:03 AM.
