  • Fireworks

It appears the fire started in Switzerland with sparklers in bottles. What an absolute tragedy with all young people having a good time.

For me fireworks should 100% be banned and only available to see at organised events. The issues with the public buying fireworks are incidents like Switzerland, unnecessary extra work load for the NHS, idiots throwing them, and pets being terrified. Those with pets ( myself included) would not mind so much if it was one day a year. It?s not and constant and not fair.

If a child is desperate to see fireworks there?s enough organised events and these usually would be kept to a minimum ie fireworks weekends and New Years Eve.

If what we are hearing is correct the major contributing factor was that the fireworks were set off inside the night club. They should be banned from inside buildings at all events. If something goes wrong outside it is usually just one person or at most, a limited number that are affected, and not dozens of people as we saw in Switzerland.

A few years ago I was at a birthday party in a pub during the day where the cake was adorned with candles (but not the usual small ones we grew up with) but a size whereby once lit, acted like flares and set off the fire alarms in the pub.
I imagine something like those could easily start a fire if close enough vicinity to flammable materials

All indoor fireworks should be banned but personally feel fireworks should only be sold through organised events, Incidents of fireworks being thrown or put through letterboxes by yobs etc. Pet owners sick of their pets being terrified so not fair.

We had a neighbour who seemed to have a celebration every other week with fireworks. He stopped and got the message when my music was turned up really loud after his fireworks finished waking up his young kids. Two can play games!

What a terrible start to 2026, those poor families who have lost their children in such awful circumstances, I can’t imagine how they must be feeling.
