We score two goals and he decides to take the best from that half's football moving forward. How did he set about that? By reverting to Plan A in his very next game albeit with different personnel in positions and roles they were uncomfortable with. A relegation rival then tore us a new one.
Derby sat back and barely bothered with the game after going a goal up because they knew we had nothing to offer. We got lucky with a set piece goal following a corner which should have been a goal kick. Then we had the Pompey debacle. My memory is still trying to fathom what my eyes were telling me at Fratton Park.
He changed the system against Stoke and kept it changed for the Blues game. We kept two clean sheets and got two much needed points. The players were clearly more comfortable and it was obvious they knew where they were supposed to be and what they were meant to be doing when they were there.
He changed the system for both games because he was running out of centre backs. It wasn't an example of flexibility. It's called an injury list. I'm really hoping he doesn't revert to Plan A at the first opportunity because the players will need the flexibility of limbo dancers to avoid relegation. We've got two points from the last eight een available. Here's hoping for more.
