Leeds United fans boo and whistle as play halted for Muslim players in Man City match To break a fast.

Totally understand this reaction as football should be all about the love of sport and in this case football. No taking the knee bollox, no religious breaks and no rainbow laces or flags.

Were the FA not at first against the poppy and should matches not be played at Easter weekend for those who want to go to church FFS?

The majority just want to unwind and forget all about the every day crap and just see football!

I would have got this had the match been in a Muslim country.

No place for religion in sport, in my opinion. If some people want to run their lives according to some ideology or other, then that is up to them but everyone else should not be impacted by it. I would like to see politics, religion and any other sectarian agendas kept out of all sport.

I would also add that I find it absurd that some footballers go out on the pitch and say prayers, as if it makes one iota of difference.

Tbh, whilst most of this country's population might technically identify as C of E on the census, they are likely either aethiest or agnostic. Over a hundred years of scientific discovery and rises in literacy and education have greatly eroded the importance of the Church and organised Christianity in the UK. As far back as 1966 Lennon's comments about the Beatles (maybe he should have said TV&#128513 being more important and popular than Jesus to young people raised hardly a ripple here despite the furore they caused in the American Bible Belt.

Besides, you don't need to be religious to have a moral compass or set of values to live by. Most religions-certainly the Abrahamic ones-have compassion at the heart of them but history has shown that organised religions can be as much a cause of division and intolerance as they can of unity and compassion. There always seem to be extremists of all stripes seeking to twist the words of their Bibles, Qurans or Tanakh to suit their own agendas.

What Leics. was likely referring to was the enclaves of more extremist forms of Islam that pose a threat to the cultural values and tolerances of this country but that is certainly not to say that elements of the white British population are not equally divisive or intolerant. I tend to agree with Ketts's "live and let live" as long as they dont impact on others philosophy. The only caveat being that I view all religions as beliefs and therefore reserve the right to challenge them if I think they are misogynistic or homophobic for example or promoting hatred.

Nothing wrong at all in trying to accommodate the beliefs of others where possible but if you mean that the match was stopped to allow Muslim players to break fast then this does seem a bit ridiculous. The Premier League rules do apparently allow this break of one of two minutes but any break in football, whether for injuries or whatever, disrupts the flow.

My understanding is that Muslims break fast at sunset or else when it is completely dark so surely another option might have been to alter the day or timing of the match instead-though I recognise that this too might have provoked a similar reaction amongst some. I've just checked and this particular game was stopped in the 13th minute and allowed the Muslim players to take in liquid and vitamins after their fast but it begs the question as to why kick off could not have been delayed by 20-30 minutes instead to allow the sun to have set first?

On the other hand, of course, it could be argued that one or two minutes in the scheme of things is nothing and that such a break would hardly be an every day occurrence.

Exactly that Omeg and Man City were under the cosh and Pep was seen barking out instructions to the players!

No problem whatsoever with the break to take on fluids and electrolytes. It's not like they sacrificed a goat in front of the crowd and popped it into a pot. As for Pep barking instructions it happens game up and game down the country when one of the delicate little flowers goes down injured as though they've been hit by a steam roller. Apologies if I've missed anything profound. Just saw the thread title and thought I'd add something to the mix 😎 .
