  • EFL Play Offs Next Season

The EFL has confirmed the Sky Bet Championship play-offs will be expanded from four to six teams from next season onwards.

EFL chief executive Trevor Birch said: "Since their introduction in 1986/87, the play-offs have become a highlight of the domestic football calendar, capturing the drama, suspense and jeopardy that make the EFL so special.

"Following several months of discussion with clubs and other stakeholders, we are confident this change will further strengthen the Championship as a competition and give more clubs and their supporters a genuine opportunity of achieving promotion."

You never know if Patel gets his wallet out 😂😂

Another total nonsense. So a team in 8th place could be promoted to the greed league. Come on, this is all about money not about football. 8th place and you could be promoted. What absolute nonsense.

Even under the current system - I seem to remember in the past, that one season, the 3rd placed team had significantly more points than the team who won promotion through the playoffs. Exciting but unfair. (Such is life)

I believe that was last season when Sheff Utd narrowly missed out on the top 2.
My thoughts are there should be 4 relegated and promoted.
The top 3 would go up automatically and the remaining 4 or 6 play for the 4th place.

I love the playoffs. For me its the most enjoyable watch of the season if you are a neutral. There is so much at stake.

I wouldnt change the current format and cant understand what we get for this. It is just a money spinner.

I am probably old fashioned but I am against the play offs. It is a league competition and therefore the three teams who gain the most points should go up and the three teams with the least number of points go down, End of!

It's an utterly ridiculous idea. Until such time as we finish seventh or eighth and repeat our promotion double of 1931 by winning the Playoff Final as well as the Cup. Eventually. And then it will be brilliant idea. COYB .
