?West Bromwich Albion have appointed James Morrison as head coach on a two-year contract after steering the club to Championship safety.
The former Baggies midfielder, 39, stepped up on an interim basis after Eric Ramsay was sacked in late February and was put in charge until the end of the campaign a week later.
Under Morrison, Albion have been re*****ised, winning four, drawing six and only losing once - his first game against Oxford United.
In that time, the Baggies dropped into the relegation zone before seemingly moving decisively clear by beating Watford only to be hit with a two-point penalty for breaking financial rules that meant they could still go down with two games to play.
But relegation to League One was officially avoided with a point in their final home match against Ipswich Town.
"I'm honoured and humbled to have been appointed as head coach of this great football club," Morrison said.
"The togetherness we have displayed in recently months - as players, staff, directors and fans - shows the enormous power of the Albion when it's focused on a collective goal.

Rarely at a game do I sing the praises of a manager/head coach, I wonder if I have in the last 10 years? but I certainly did for Jimmy Morrison. Oh Jimmy Jimmy.

It makes sense to appoint him as basically he has saved us from what looked like certain relegation. What we must now do is to give him the time and support to take us back to where I think that we belong. I am not expecting miracles but would like to think that we can push for the play offs next season.

Financially, things will be improve for next season but I doubt very much that there will be money to splurge. Wallace, O'Leary, Dike, Grant and Maja will all be off the payroll by the end ofJuly but have all been regular first team players so we still need to replace them as we lack depth in squad as it is. It's easy to say replace them with cheaper, younger and better players but whilst our recruitment most certainly needs to be sharper than it has been, this is far easier said than done. Personally, I can see O'Leary being offered something and-if they are prepared to accept less wages and a bonus scheme-maybe one or two others. I wouldn't be adverse to that and, of course, both Morrison and the other players already have a good working relationship with them.

I'd expect to see Bostock retained in the first team and given some opportunities next season and maybe Whitwell too but Sule and other youngsters likely need more loan experience first. Morrison has worked with many of our younger players so I think we need to trust his judgement more on when they are ready for their first team chances.

Anyhow, I'm pleased for Mozza and think he has deserved this opportunity.

Excellent, well deserved. I am very pleased for Jimmy Morrison, I wish him all the best. I do hope, though, that when we do have a poor run of results, it happens at all clubs at some point, the fans keep behind him. Personally, I’m not bothered about getting into the PL, that is only worthwhile when there are the resources available to give the club a good chance of staying there by winning a reasonable number of matches. I actually dislike the PL, not called the Greed League for nothing!

If Palace decide to loan him out for a second season rather than keep him at home then I'm sure he will have plenty of suitors but we definitely need to go in for him and if we can't buy then hopefully the relationships he has built up whilst with us might swing any loan decision our way. He is one of the players who has certainly improved under Morrison's tenure and Imray himself has acknowledged this so maybe Palace will view that as a positive too if they do opt to put him out on loan again.
