Makes sense to me. O'Leary, despite those initial fumbles, did ok and we need a GK so it makes sense to offer him something and I'm sure we will be in talks with Palace to see If we can at least bring Danny Imray back for another season if we cannot purchase.
With so many forward players out of contract, I think it would have been a big ask to replace all of them. I always thought we might end up offering something to either Maja or Dike on reduced terms as we will likely continue to play a 4-4-2 and Heggebo needs someone to partner/ rotate with him. Personally, I thought Dike was beginning to show what he might offer and I wouldn't have been adverse to offering him something but maybe Morrison figured that Dike's physicality and hold up play is too similar to Heggebo whereas Maja offers something different? I feel a bit sorry for Dike as he comes across as a decent lad and he's had an awful time with us with injury but he must present an injury risk still and heads have to rule hearts.
A little bit surprised about Grant being offered something tbh. His work rate and desire have been generally excellent but his end product in terms of goals or assists has been pretty woeful considering his wages and what we paid for him. On the other hand, with Bostock still having much to learn and Wallace now gone, we need another wide player besides Mikey. (And hopefully no more loanees from the Vile to try and fill that position!)
I'm sure the thinking is that both Maja and Grant are worth retaining on reduced wages/ bonus scheme partly because it will be difficult to replace the loss of so many forward players with better and cheaper and partly because the coaching staff already know what they can both be capable of and retaining the two -if they accept the new terms of course--also helps with continuity in the team.
Anyhow, onwards and upwards. There won't be a lot of money to spend in the summer as the first team players we have lost have all been out of contract so, as Matt points out, no money from sales to help out. I think we therefore need to manage expectations but I'm looking forward to a rebuild and Morrison has already spoken about our younger players needing to be up for the challenge if opportunities present themselves so hoping to see some of them featured next season.
Purchase wise, if we can't retain Imray, I think our priorities have to be a RB, a proven goal scorer (if we can get one!) and a decent creative midfielder. Thoughts?

That rumoured young striker we are after from Falkirk sounds decent. I prefer Maja over Dike but it?s keeping him fit. I guess both Grant and Maja will play a game now and see if they can get better offers elsewhere. Patel does need to get his wallet out though and think he will!Originally posted by Omegstrat6 View PostMakes sense to me. The thing that always surprises me is just how many youngsters leave each year.Originally posted by baggieal View PostI really hope so Prando as he?s class!
HavenÂ’t seen much except highlights on clubs site at times but makes me wonder if we are reluctant to hold onto a few more because the turn over each year is significant after many years investing in their development.

Don?t start me on that one Yarm but you are 100% correct. Williams has the potential to start now and I would like to see more of Sule because he?s got much better feet than Heggebo. I get why Bostock though would benefit from a loan as suggested by Matt.Originally posted by Yarmbaggie View PostThe thing that always surprises me is just how many youngsters leave each year.

Caleb but we didn?t rate him enough but Millwall did. We are poor with giving minutes to our younger players. I would like to see Williams and Sule playing pre season.Originally posted by Prando View PostThanks soulman buddy - I was forgetting that they indeed came back to us and played for us before being transferred.

I dont think that was ever the case. He was just sold out of necessity. I think the club saw him as the Heggem replacement and would have kept him if we got a better deal for Fellows.Originally posted by baggieal View PostCaleb but we didn?t rate him enough but Millwall did.
Can add Berahino to the list. A loan to Peterborough before returning and eventually making the first team.
