  • What car do you drive?

I've had my Ford Kuga over 7 years , very reliable its the old tdi engine not the eco blue.
I only average around 3.5k a year, but as with all my cars I have a service every year .
Tyres, brake pads and wiper blades that's all I had to replace .
But now it needs cambelt change, gearbox and 4x4 fluid change .
So it's twist or stick time , I regretted swaping my Jaguar for it after a week never thought I would still have it .

Always find it?s better to trade in a car before the first MOT Lloyd as from experience it starts costing money. My view is cars are a waste of money so rather put the money into the property but of course that?s personal choice. Mick has a big flash car and he picked me up in it the other night! He?s worked hard for it so deserves the luxury.

Ford Escort mk3 (definitely Fix Or Repair Daily!)

Austin Montego 1.6 (First company car.Very comfortable, hardly nimble though and no power steering)

Ford Escort I.6 Estate last gen. (My first new car-a company one. Nice car)

Vauxhall Nova 4 Door Saloon.(Old G reg. but v low mileage and v good condition. I got it when I was made redundant. Very reliable but small for a growing family)

Ford Sierra Sapphire (Its Pinto engine proved very under powered with all the kids in the back)

Toyota Estima Emina G 7 seater w/moonroof and captains swivel seats (We had hired an Estima for a family holiday and then purchased a second hand Japanese "Grey import". It was an old N reg, but v low mileage and excellent condition. Needed wax oiling underneath but never had any rust on it despite living near the sea. One of the best cars we ever had. Miss it even now , especially with our growing number of grandchildren!)

Honda Prelude 2.2 vtec 4th gen (Another grey import. Nice looking car and spent some money on a dastek unichip and carbon air filter so that it was tuned to make around 200bhp at the wheel. Great fun to drive when the old school vtec cut in but it was an old car when I got it and rust eventually got the better of it and the better half was more than happy to see the back it! Both our Japanese imports were automatics and I would not go back to a manual)

Vauxhall Omega V6 (Second hand but in good nick when I got it and a great family car. Very comfortable with some poke too, if a bit thirsty. Age eventually got the better of it with too many little things starting to go wrong)

Astra 1.6 SRI Sports Tourer. (Having stepped down from my management job to help care for our youngest, we decided to use the mobility element of his DLA on a motability lease car rather than help fund our own when we downsized to just one car. For some reason, the SRI model (with far better ergonomic drivers seat) was amongst the Nil advance payment options at the time. We had three of these, all very good cars)

Hyundai I.6 Ioniq hybrid (The initial payment for the Astra increased drastically and took it out of our price range but we then struggled to find an automatic car on the scheme in our budget that was big enough to fit a wheel chair in. The Ioniq saloon was one of only 2 options but proved to be a nice car to drive, was actually comfortable in the back and was very economical. When the lease ended however we found that, despite it's popularity (small wonder you see them everywhere used as taxis) that the model was being discontinued as Hyundai moved into more electric vehicles).

Renault Symbioz 1.6 hybrid ( No automatics on the lower costing motability list that we could fit the wheel chair in so we had to save up for the increased advanced payment but I like this small/medium SUV. The wheelchair takes up virtually all of the boot space but whilst it's not the most engaging car to drive, it's comfortable, rides well and is very economical. Even at its lowest spec it is well kitted out and if I were to buy a car in its size range, it's vfm means it would certainly be one I'd consider. My only regret is that we just missed out on the new I.8 version as the I.6 has some lag when accelerating between 50-60 and the engine roars a bit as if it's taking its time to find the right gear. Not a major problem, just a bit noisy, but something Renault really should have sorted out first before having to resolve with a slightly different engine.

😂 I'm exactly the same Tipps! New cars are like bloody space ships in comparison to those of even a few years ago.

Mine has so many safety features/ "driving assists" on it but I have to go through them each time I get in to at least I make sure that I de-select "lane control" which is surely the bane of anyone driving on windy country roads! As for automatic lighting, I must have engaged that by accident once, but the full beam always seems to go off a fraction too late when a vehicle comes the other way and the collision warning also does my head in when it regularly comes on at a particular bend in a local road which has cars parked on one side. Still haven't figured why the sensors trigger that as I'm not speeding and nowhere near them.

Not into cars just want comfortable and reliable.

Last dozen or so wife and I have had have all been leased. Personal Contract Hire.Low deposit, know exactly what you are going to pay and after 3 years just hand them back and start again. Might not be the most economical but the most convenient and hassle free which is all I ask.

Currently driving a Sportage PHEV. Wife has a Renault 5 all electric which is my car of choice for nipping into town.
Not many years from now a good number of us will be driving Chinese

I'm not too fussy when it comes to cars; anything which drives the wife up the wall is fine by me .
